ThedaCare Stop The Bleed Class
The Stop the Bleed initiative is designed to train non-medical citizens the ability to recognize life threatening bleed and then provide helpful interventions. The vision is that this training be as common as CPR and that people will readily step in to provide aid when safe and appropriate.

This course is not about civilians or non-medical personnel taking the place of EMS. Rather, it is an emphasis on quick thinking/emergent interventions that can be safely done while awaiting the EMS team that has been activated by 911. We teach to first check for scene safety, then ABC (Alert (911), Bleeding (identify where and if it’s life threatening) and Compress (apply pressure or a tourniquet). Many preventable deaths from bleeding can be addressed if civilians take action. Similar to the work on CPR in years past – it’s now a highly recognized intervention performed every day by non-medical personnel.
