This year sees a change in venue and format for the race. Instead of being held on the streets of downtown Ripon, the run/walk is being moved to Riggs County Park, off of Douglas St. Participants will be clear of traffic by running on the park’s paths; and everyone can enjoy the beautiful nature reserve of the park. This year registration will start at 5:30pm, with the 5k race beginning at 6:30pm; to allow runners time to finish before the path gets too dark. The Ripon Noon Kiwanis are also offering bonus features to the event, to create a well rounded evening of family friendly activities, in addition to the run. They include:
- A bouncy castle for the kids
- A cook-out, hosted by the Ripon Noon Kiwanis from 5:30pm-7:30pm
- And throughout the event, members of the RNK will activate “lure modules” in the Pokémon Go mobile game; turning Riggs Park into a Pokémon treasure trove!
Capping off the evening, the Ripon Public Library is hosting their annual informed-stargazing event with astronomer Paul Kinzer on the east side of Riggs Park. They will be kicking off their portion of the night with a s’mores roast at 7:30pm, followed by stargazing at 8pm. Mars and Saturn should visible that evening, and will be the same weekend as the Perseid meteor shower!
Registration for the run/walk can be completed online at https://raceroster.com/events/2016/8640/doug-lyke-twilight-trail-run; or by printing and completing the registration form, which can be downloaded from the Ripon Noon Kiwanis website: http://www.riponnoonkiwanis.org/road-runs/.
Early registration is $20 through August 11th, $25 August 12th through the day of the race; $45 “Family Registration” is available (up to 2 parents and 2 children) by mail entry or the day of the race.
