National Library Week

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.

Millions of people across the country visit their libraries every week. What’s the draw? Everything. From young families stopping in for play and storytime, to seniors seeking tech help and everyone in between, libraries help us connect the dots from one part of our journey to the next. Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone.

Enjoy a StoryWalk & Prize Wheel

April 7-12

Enjoy a StoryWalk around the library’s property this week. A StoryWalk is an outdoor activity that combines literacy with physical activity. Pages from a children’s picture book are displayed along a path to encourage families to read and walk together. The prize wheel will make an appearance at the library on Wednesday, April 9 & Friday, April 11.

Food for Fines

April 7-12

Bring in non-perishable, unexpired food items and receive $1 off your library fines per item. We will forgive up to $5 on your account (excludes charges for lost or damaged items).This promotion is for Berlin Library patrons only. Food donations benefit the Berlin Food Pantry.

Bookmark Design Contest

Begins Monday, April 7

Entries due Saturday, April 19

Pick up a submission form for our first ever Bookmark Design Contest! Entries will be displayed in the library as part of a viewer’s choice contest from April 21-30. The bookmark designs that receive the most votes in each age category will be professionally printed and distributed at the library! Open to all ages!

Kay Roethel Meeting Room Open House & Dedication

Wednesday, April 9 from 5:30-6:30 pm

You’re invited to join us for an Open House in honor of our new meeting room dedicated to Kay Roethel, our longstanding Library Board President of 51 years! Join the Berlin Library Trustees, Staff, and Friends of the Library us for light refreshments in our new meeting space.

All Ages Programs

Neurographic Art

Monday, April 14 at 4 pm

Celebrate Stress Awareness Month by joining librarians Dani and Makayla to relax, draw lines, and paint using watercolors. Whether you're artistically talented or not, this is a meditative, mindful exercise meant to calm and bring you inspiration through doodling. All ages are welcome!

Pizza & Poetry Night

Tuesday, April 22 at 5 pm

Join us for an evening of shared words and warm slices! Celebrate National Poetry Month by bringing a favorite poem or two--whether it’s your own creation or a beloved classic--to share with fellow poetry enthusiasts. We’ll share our poems outloud and engage in conversation while we enjoy Domino’s pizza. All ages are welcome, so please select poems suitable for everyone.

Registration by April 21 is required so we know how much pizza to order!

Financial Literacy Month with Farmers & Merchants Bank

It's Financial Literacy Month! Farmers & Merchants Bank has provided materials that guide readers through their financial journey at all ages. From bookmarks, resources, and featured books in the lobby to fun coloring sheets and packets on the kids' side, there’s something for everyone! Plus, stop in for a special Financial Literacy Storytime for the little ones on Wednesday April 9 at 10 am.

Protecting Yourself from Cyber Fraud

Wednesday, April 23

Presentations at 1 pm and 6 pm

 

Learn about the common tricks and scams used by cybercriminals to steal your information online. We'll show you how to recognize these threats and give you simple, easy-to-follow steps to keep your personal information safe from fraud. Presented by Farmers & Merchants Bank. Free and open to all.

Friday Matinee - A Complete Unknown

Friday, May 2 at 1 pm

 

Join us for a free showing of A Complete Unknown (rated R), the biographical musical drama about Bob Dylan starring Timothée Chalamet.

Game Night

Friday, May 2 at 1 pm

Gather up your pals (or come solo to meet new ones) and join us after-hours at the library for board games and snacks! This event is for ages 16 and up. Bring a favorite board game to share or play one of the library's many games!

Ancestry 101

Saturday, May 3 at 1 pm

Have you always wanted to research your family history, but unsure of how to start? Start with Ancestry! The Ancestry Library Edition online resource is available for all to use in-library. Learn how to navigate this resource, search for records, and build your family tree at this free presentation by Brian Podoll, Genealogist with AncestryProGenealogist.

Stop by anytime during the the week of April 14 to hunt for Easter Eggs all throughout the library!

Blackout Poetry

All Month Long

Drop by the Young Adult Lounge to use upcycled books and magazines for Blackout Poetry throughout the month of April!

Teen Library Club

Wednesday, April 30 at 4 pm

Meet with other teens and create and run your own programs at the library! 6th-12th graders interested in joining should contact Makayla at youthservices@berlinlibrary.org
