MEDICAL EXAMINER’S K9 FUND

The Medical Examiner’s Office in Winnebago County has just begun a fundraising effort to purchase a facility K9. Their new dog Brie will support the mental health and well-being of employees, families, and visitors. The facility K9 will be specially trained in providing comfort to individuals exposed to traumatic and emotionally taxing situations, helping to mitigate stress, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress among staff, and providing compassionate support for grieving families. Grieving families—it’s something the ME’s office deals with every day and every call. A few community members have already pledged support to the fundraising effort, but they need $25,000 to purchase the dog-over half of which is for the specialty training required for this type of dog: and more for her ongoing care. Donations may be made to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, just search for Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office K9 Fund on the Foundation’s website.
