The Brewers are back in action after a day off Thursday. Milwaukee visits the Tampa Bay Ray on Friday. Left-hander José Quintana (4-1, 2.83) will pitch for the Brewers. First pitch is at 6:05 CDT.
There was just one game played in the NL Central Thursday as the Braves beat the Reds 5-4. The Cubs lead the Cardinals and Brewers by three games, the Reds are now 3 ½ out and the Pirates are 10 games behind.
The Milwaukee Brewers optioned right-hander Elvin Rodríguez to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, one day after he allowed six runs over 3 1/3 innings of relief in a 9-1 loss to the Houston Astros.
Rodríguez, 27, has an 0-2 record and 8.68 ERA in six appearances with Milwaukee this season. He has allowed seven homers in 18 2/3 innings.
While 10 other NL pitchers also had given up at least seven homers this season heading into Thursday’s games, each of the others had pitched at least 28 innings.
The Brewers also announced Thursday that right-hander Aaron Civale has been sent to Nashville for a rehabilitation assignment as he recovers from a strained left hamstring.
Civale has been on the injured list since making his lone appearance of the season in a 12-3 loss to the New York Yankees on March 30.
In the Midwest League Thursday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won at Peoria over the Chiefs 3-2. The teams meet again tonight with the first pitch at 7:05, There was one game played last night in the NBA Playoffs. In the Western Conference semi-finals Minnesota beat Golden State 117-93 to tie their series at a game each.
In the Eastern Conference semi-finals tonight the Pacers play the Cavaliers with Indiana up 2-0 in the series.
