RIFLE NEGLIGENTLY DISCHARGED IN FDL
No one was injured Sunday night when a rifle was discharged in the 100 block of Central Avenue in Fond du Lac. A homeowner reported hearing a loud noise followed by damage to their home and windows. Officers found evidence a projectile had traveled from a neighboring residence striking the caller’s home. Initially attempts to contact someone at the suspect’s residence were unsuccessful. A drone was used and shortly afterwards the 42-year-old Fond du Lac man living at that home contacted dispatch and voluntarily cooperated with the investigation. He admitted to discharging a rifle within his home. A charge of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, a misdemeanor offense, has been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office.
SEX OFFENDER RELEASED TO LIVE IN FDL

Fond du Lac Police say a 66-year-old sex offender released from prison will be living at 457 Thomas Street. Norbert Neis will be on electronic monitoring and will be on extended supervision until June 1st, 2045. He will also be on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life. He served 17 years in prison for second-degree sexual assault of a child and possessing child pornography. He was convicted of those two charges in Fond du Lac County Court in 2007. He was incarcerated at the Winnebago Correctional Center in Winnebago.
THE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL
Congressman Glenn Grothman was among those who approved President Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” in Congress last week. It passed by one vote and moves on to the U.S. Senate. Grothman says the bill will lower taxes, promote American energy independence, secure our borders and prohibit tax on tips or overtime. It will also create work search requirements for those on Medicaid and SNAP or food share programs at the end of 2026. He believes the Senate will include more spending cuts but their thinking on tax deductions will be different. U.S. Senator Ron Johnson has already criticized the “Big Beautiful Bill” saying it will add trillions of dollars to the National Debt over the next 10 years. Congressman Grothman doesn’t feel that is true. He points out restoring tax cuts made in 2017 is not something that is new and shouldn’t be thought of that way. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says he’s hoping the Senate will have bigger spending cuts than the House.
REPAIR ORDER
For the sake of the public the Ripon Common Council recently approved remediation work at 112 Watson Street. The building has been in disrepair for years and has a mold issue. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says they feared if it was demolished the mold issue could affect adjacent property owners. The former owner ignored the city’s repair orders and the County suspended tax foreclosure on the building. Sonntag says the repair issue had dragged on for two years and something needed to be done. He says the $16,300 the city is paying for the repair work will be billed against the former property owner. The building also needs some roof repairs but the city is hoping liability and ownership issues can be settled before it has to do another repair order.
STATE HIGHWAY 91 PROJECT STARTS TODAY
Construction begins in Winnebago County today on the State Highway 91 improvement project. The highway will be closed between State Highway 116 and State Highway 44 for six weeks for culvert replacement. Improvements will take place on 14.6 miles of State Highway 91 from the west Winnebago County Line to just west of State Highway 44 within the city of Oshkosh and the towns of Algoma, Nekimi, Rushford, and Nepeuskun. It’s a $9.1 million project. Roughly 30 pipe culverts will be replaced.
FORMER ROSENDALE BRANDON SCHOOLS WILL BECOME HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS
Although Rosendale Primary and Brandon Elementary Schools will no longer be used as schools, the two school sites will provide something both communities need—more housing. Rosendale-Brandon Schools Superintendent Wayne Weber says a local home builder purchased the Rosendale Primary site and the closing was in the past few weeks. The same person also is purchasing the Brandon Elementary site although there are still a few contingencies to work out on that. Weber says the plan is to tear down the schools and build homes on them including side-by-side duplexes and single family homes. Weber says while it is tough to see those schools go it is also an opportunity for new families to move in bringing new students and revenue to the communities.
