5/20/25 Ripon Area School District Poverty Simulation
20 May 2025 News
The Ripon Area School District hosted two Poverty Simulations during the May 9th Professional Development Day in the Ripon High School gymnasium. Newly appointed Superintendent Ron Rivard joined professional staff, student teachers, custodians, clerical support staff, members of the Ripon School Board, as well as team members from the Tri-County Boys & Girls Club. Secondary staff participated in the poverty simulation in the morning, followed by elementary staff in the afternoon.

The intent was to help participants understand the challenges faced by those who experience poverty through role-playing. Participants were assigned a role and prompted to use limited time and resources over a simulated period of one month to determine how to care for their families on a limited budget and resources.
Barlow Park Teacher, Rachel Minch, brought this experience to Ripon as a culminating project for her Instructional Leadership and School Supervision Master’s Program.
