Miguel Vargas hit a three-run home run, Luis Robert Jr. had four RBIs and the Chicago White Sox beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0 on Thursday.

Sean Burke (2-4) gave up two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings for his first win since the season opener. Mike Vasil, Brandon Eisert and Jared Shuster each threw an inning of no-hit relief as Chicago dealt the Brewers their first shutout of the season.

After Edgar Quero and Andrew Vaughn hit back-to-back two-out singles to chase starter Chad Patrick, Vargas hit a 1-2 pitch off Craig Yoho over the wall in left to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth.

Lenyn Sosa singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and scored when Andrew Benintendi drew the last of three consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. Robert followed with a three-run double that made it 8-0 in the seventh.

Patrick (0-3) lost his third straight start. He gave up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Sean Burke walked three batters in the top of the first to load the bases with two outs before Robert made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Rhys Hopkins of grand slam. Chase Medroith then hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the first and scored on a single by Robert to make it 1-0.

Vargas extended his hitting streak to eight games. The 25-year-old third baseman is batting .448 (13 of 29) with six RBIs over that span.

RHP Quinn Priester (1-0, 3.79) will start for the Brewers on Friday against Cubs RHP Ben Brown (2-2, 6.04) in Milwaukee. First pitch is at 7:10 from American Family Field.

In the NL Central Thursday the Cubs beat the Pirates 8-3 and the Reds downed the Cardinals 9-1. The Cubs lead the Reds by two games, the Brewers by three, the Cardinals are five games out and the Pirates are seven behind.

Last week at the WIAA’s annual meeting, member schools approved name, image and likeness for high school students.

NIL will be implemented in May or June, opening the pathway for high school athletes to get paid.

There are rules though as to who can and can’t offer athletes money.

The schools’alumni, businesses who have already supported your school, coaches, past coaches, boosters are not allowed to give student-athletes at your school money. .

Currently there are now 45 states in the country that have approved NIL for high school athletes, but it doesn’t mean athletes everywhere will be getting deals? Not even close.

NIL appears to be something elite Division I-bound athletes like Oshkosh North’s Xzavion Mitchell, who’s going to Iowa State on a basketball scholarship and a few other athletes.

The NBA playoffs continued last night. In the Eastern Conference the Knicks beat the Pistons 116-113 to win their series 4-2. In the Western Conference the Clippers downed the Nuggets 111-105 to tie their series at three games each.

After conversations with the Indiana Pacers front office,Tyrese Haliburton’s ‘s father, John Haliburton, will not attend the team’s home and road games for the foreseeable future, a Pacers spokesperson told ESPN.

This was a decision made by the team’s front office, and John Haliburton was understanding and accepted the decision. The move comes after John Haliburton and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokoumpo got into a heated confrontation following Game 5 of the teams’ first-round playoff series Tuesday, spurred by what Antetokounmpo called a “disrespectful” exchange on the floor.

The Pacers were celebrating Tyrese Haliburton’s go-ahead layup with 1.3 seconds left in overtime that gave them a series-clinching 119-118 victory. According to Antetokounmpo, John Haliburton walked toward the Bucks star waving a towel and swearing at him.

John Haliburton apologized on social media shortly after the game, writing: “I sincerely apologize to Giannis, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Pacers organization for my actions following tonight’s game. This was not a good reflection on our sport or my son and I will not make that mistake again.”

Tyrese Haliburton said after the game he didn’t know what happened until he got back to the locker room, but he agreed that his father was out of line and said he had a conversation with him as well.
