Studio Painting I with Oils

This summer, community members have the chance to explore one of art’s most time-honored mediums in an approachable, hands-on environment. Art MidWisconsin will host “Studio Painting I with Oils,” a four-session workshop held on Wednesdays: May 28, June 4 & 18, and July 2, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Town Square Community Center, 492 Hill Street, Green Lake, WI.

Led by accomplished artist and instructor Angel Rettler (pictured above), this workshop is designed for beginners and intermediate painters who want to learn foundational oil painting techniques while building their own creative voice. Over 12 hours of instruction, students will explore a wide range of topics, including paint types, medium choices, surface structures, and various application styles—all while developing a finished painting of their own.

“As a teacher, I love watching people discover their ability to create something they’re proud of,” said Angel Rettler, owner of the Campbellsport-based studio Artsy Fartsy. “Oil painting can seem intimidating, but this class makes it feel accessible, inspiring, and fun—whether it’s your first brushstroke or your fiftieth.”

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts and over a decade of teaching experience, Rettler is known for her warm, encouraging teaching style. Her classes are rooted in a deep appreciation for creative exploration and personal growth, and she’s spent the last 10 years helping students of all levels discover joy through painting.

Studio Painting I with Oils is part of Town Square’s expanded summer art programming through a new partnership with Art MidWisconsin, a regional collective of professional artists and educators. This collaboration brings over a dozen new workshops, classes, and lectures to Green Lake from May through September.

The cost for this four-session workshop is $170 per student. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Studio Painting I with Acrylics

“Studio Painting I with Acrylics” begins Friday, May 30, and continues on June 13, June 27, and July 11, with sessions running from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM each evening. The four-part workshop, totaling 12 hours of guided instruction, will take place at Town Square Community Center, 492 Hill Street, Green Lake, WI.

Led by award-winning artist Elissa Ewald, this beginner-to-intermediate workshop is ideal for anyone looking to build confidence and develop their painting practice in a welcoming, encouraging space. Participants will explore acrylic materials, composition techniques, and personal creative goals while working toward a completed piece of their own.

“This class is about more than painting,” said Elissa Ewald, Instructing Artist. “It’s about reconnecting with creativity, finding joy in the process, and discovering why we create—all in a space where everyone is welcome, no matter their skill level.”

Elissa Ewald, a self-taught painter known for her expressive style and community teaching through the Berlin Library, brings a passion for both art and instruction. Her goal is to help participants not only improve their technique but also uncover the emotional and personal value of creative expression.

Studio Painting I with Acrylics is part of Town Square’s new collaboration with Art MidWisconsin, a regional collective of working artists and educators bringing 18 unique classes and lectures to Green Lake through the fall. The workshop is $170 per participant and a supply list will be provided upon registration.
