Rhys Hoskins homered and drove in five runs, Jake Bauers had two RBIs and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cleveland Guardians 9-5 to avoid a series sweep on Wednesday.
Hoskins’ single in the three-run sixth plated William Contreras with the go-ahead score and his two-run homer in the seventh made it 7-2. He drove in two more in the ninth with a single for his fourth hit of the afternoon.
Bauers doubled in a run in the second and singled home Brice Turang in the sixth. The Brewers went 2-4 on a trip through Tampa Bay and Cleveland.
Logan Henderson (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing two runs while striking out seven in his second start in the majors. The right-hander gave up a solo home run to Kyle Manzardo in the second.
José Ramírez hit a three-run homer off Jared Koenig in the eighth, pulling the Guardians within 7-5. Nolan Jones had a pair of hits and an RBI for Cleveland, which has won 22 of 34 games since April 8.
Tim Herrin (3-1) gave up two runs and recorded one out for the loss.
Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana was placed on the injured list with shoulder impingement before the game. Pitcher Tobias Myers was recalled from Triple-A Nashville, but did not join the team.
Milwaukee turned a tie game into a 5-2 lead in the top of the sixth against Herrin and Jakob Junis, putting six straight aboard. Caleb Durbin was hit by a Junis pitch with the bases loaded for the third run.
The Brewers were shut out in the first two games of the series, totaling 10 hits, before erupting for their highest-run total since April 22 at San Francisco.
Brewers RHP Chad Patrick (2-3, 3.19 ERA) pitches Friday against Minnesota to begin a six-game homestand. In other games played Wednesday in the NL Central the Marlins beat the Cubs 3-1, the Pirates shutout the Mets 4-0, the White Sox downed the Reds 4-2 and the Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Phillies, losing the first game 2-1 but bouncing back to win the
second game 14-7. The Cubs lead the Cardinals by a game, the Brewers are four games back, the Reds five and the Pirates are 10 games behind.
In the Midwest League Wednesday the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost to Beloit 12-7 at Fox Cities Stadium. They play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:40.
In the NBA Eastern Conference semifinal series Wednesday night the Celtics stayed alive at home against the Knicks with a 127-102 win. New York still leads 3-2 in their series.
In the Western Conference semifinals Minnesota wrapped up its series at home against Golden State with a 121-110 victory. The Timberwolves won their series 4-1.
The NFL released its season schedule Wednesday and the Packers open up the 2025 regular season at home against the Detroit Lions on September 7th, with the kickoff set for 3:25.

The UW-Oshkosh basetball and softball teams are both in the NCAA Division III tournament, for the first time since 2018.
The Titans baseball team made it every year throughout the 80’s and 90’s, but this marks just their 2nd appearance since 2008.
Meanwhile, for UWO softball this makes it 6 of the last 8 and last year at the World Series finishing 5th place.
Thursday the Titans softball team hosts Concordia University Wisconsin at 11am
Friday the Titans baseball team begins their regional title hunt at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota vs. University of Chicago at 10am.
