REACTION TO WISCONSIN STATE SUPREME COURT DECISION

Governor Tony Evers Friday released a statement after the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision upholding the governor’s partial line-item veto in the 2023-25 budget that provided Wisconsin school districts with continued, additive per pupil adjustments of $325 every year through 2425. The Governor said, “Doing what’s best for our kids is what’s best for your state, and I will never stop fighting to do more for our kids and our schools.”

Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce officials say they are disappointed and that Governor exceeded his authority.

State Superintendent of Schools Jill Underly praised the Court’s decision saying it was a win for Wisconsin’s public schools.

State Representative Alex Dallman of Markesan says, “Once again, our liberal Wisconsin Supreme Court continues to act as the second legislative body in our state.” He added, “Instead of upholding the Constitution, liberal justices decided today to maintain Governor Evers’ increase in property taxes for hardworking Wisconsinites for the next four centuries.”

FUNDRAISING EFFORT PUSH FOR WAUSHARA COUNTY YMCA POOL

A push is being made to raise the final $1.2 million needed to put in a pool at the Waushara County YMCA when it’s built. More than $10 million has been raised for the YMCA in Wautoma and phase one of construction will include the “Y” and the pool’s foundation, shell, and utilities when construction begins July 1st. Ryan Zietlow is the CEO of the Stevens Point Area YMCA one of the stakeholders in a new YMCA being built in Wautoma. A Community Needs Assessment was performed showing the need for a YMCA in Waushara County. He says phase one will fulfill their main areas of focus. Those areas of youth development include nurturing the potential of children, healthy living, and the social responsibility of giving back and providing support to your neighbors. As for a pool Zietlow points out Central Wisconsin and Waushara County in particular has many water bodies and the YMCA is the nation’s largest provider of swimming lessons. Those who would like to give toward the pool can look for the Friends of the Waushara Community YMCA Fund on the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin website.
