PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

The Fond du Lac County Communications Center is among those throughout the country being recognized during Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week which runs through Saturday. The Sheriff’s Office oversees the 911 dispatch center. It serves all the communities in Fond du Lac County, including 18 fire departments, six ambulance districts, 11 first responder groups, and 9 law enforcement agencies. On average, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center receives over 367 administrative and 911 emergency calls per day and 215 CAD calls. Sheriff’s Captain Eric Halbach is in charge of Administration and Communications. He says dispatchers play a critical role in emergency services. His office is adjacent to the dispatch center and sometimes he hears the calls coming in asking for help with CPR. He says those calls give him goosebumps. He says they are a team that support each other, but occasionally they need support after an emotional call and they have a peer support team and a therapy dog to help during those times. FDL COUNTY MORAINE PARK MOU

Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says a memorandum of understanding between Moraine Park Technical College and Fond du Lac County for use of a floor of the County’s Public Safety Training facility will have benefits for a lot of people. It will allow Moraine Park to offer a Jail Academy with a Department of Justice accredited 200-hour program to certify new correctional officers. The site is part of the former Art Building for the UW-O Fond du Lac campus. Kaufman says they will be able to train their own corrections officers and those from other counties. He says that will benefit those being trained because they won’t have to deal with the costs of going elsewhere for training or wait lists for the training. He says the former Art Building will also be used to train police, fire, and EMS. Kaufman feels they are doing a good job repurposing all the buildings and land once making up the UW-Fond du Lac campus, now known as the Fond du Lac County campus. MPTC’s Jail Academy program will begin in September.
