Fond du Lac Police took a 43-year-old Fond du Lac man into custody Friday night following a standoff situation at an apartment complex in the 100 block of south National Avenue. Just before 8 pm Police responded for a 9-1-1 call from a woman who said her son was threatening to die by suicide. The man fired multiple rounds from a handgun in the apartment which shattered a bedroom window. The woman is confined to a wheelchair and could not exit the apartment on her own. Apartment tenants were advised to shelter in place and as they were setting up perimeter police began evacuating some residents. Police brought in additional resources including their SWAT team and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s SWAT team. The man refused to work with crisis negotiators and began directing threats toward his mother. At approximately 10:15 pm an explosive breach was used to enter the apartment. The woman was moved to safety and her son was taken into custody.
