Friday in Fond du Lac County Court a 48-year-old Fond du Lac man was sentenced to 8 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision on a first-degree reckless homicide charge for a fentanyl overdose death that occurred in the city on January 5th, 2021. Fond du Lac County Judge Douglas Edelstein sentenced Michael Kimmons. According to the criminal complaint the victim, a Fond du Lac man, was found dead on a bed in the bedroom of the upper level of a residence. He was clutching a cell phone in one hand. A forensic analysis of the cell phone by the State’s Division of Criminal Investigation found messages on the phone between the victim and Kimmons talking about purchasing heroin. On January 4th Kimmons took the victim to buy drugs and later they went back to Kimmons’ residence to do the drugs. Later the victim went home and died. District Attorney Eric Toney says, “This is another tragic consequence of the opioid epidemic and the damage fentanyl causes in our communities.”
