The Green Bay Packers have formally proposed a rule change to ban the tush push, and the Detroit Lions proposed that playoff seeding be done based on record instead of automatically placing division winners in the top four spots. Teams made several other proposals released Wednesday. Any rule change must be approved by 24 out of 32 team owners. Another proposal would change the overtime rule. The proposals made to the competition committee will be considered at the league meetings later this month.
A former wide receiver that played under Vince Lombardi passed away on Sunday. Bob Long was 83 years old. Long was with the Green Bay Packers from 1964 to 1967 and was a three-time NFL Champion. He was a fourth-round draft pick in 1964 out of Wichita State. During his time with Green Bay, he started four games and caught 25 passes. He played behind wide receivers Carroll Dale and Max McGee.
The Milwaukee Bucks continue their 5-game West Coast swing tonight in LA against the Lakers. They lost the first game of that road trip to the Golden State Warriors Tuesday night 104 to 93. Tonight’s game is at 9:30.
The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a 5 to 4 win over the Chicago White Sox yesterday and are off today before taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks at 8:10 Friday night.
Speaking of the Brewers, infielder Brice Turang was about to be named the starting shortstop for the upcoming season. Then he developed some arm soreness from all the work during the spring, making the extra-long throws to first base. So, the Brewers will give Turang a few days to rest but it would appear Joey Ortiz will at least start the season at Shortstop and Turang will return to 2nd base where he’s been since arriving on the scene in the majors. Turang says he will play any position the Brew Crew needs him at.
