3/18/25 Green Lake County Wildfire

DNR fire crews and local agencies are at the scene of the roughly 720-acre Big Island Fire in the White River Marsh State Wildlife Area in Green Lake County. The fire broke out at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Two residences were evacuated, with six structures threatened but were not lost. No injuries were reported. DNR fire suppression resources on the scene, included six DNR engines, four dozers with engines, two DNR low ground units, DNR air patrol and two U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service low ground units. Ten local fire departments and law enforcement also assisted. The fire is under investigation. No DNR or private approved prescribed burn was in the area at the start of the fire. The fire was burning on state and private lands. The DNR urges the public to check fire danger online before conducting outdoor burning activities. The fire danger level is very high for Adams, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waushara, and Winnebago counties and high for surrounding counties. Officials are asking residents to stay away from the fire area.
