STATE ASSEMBLY PASSES PUBLIC SAFETY BILLS

State Representatives Alex Dallman and Scott Krug voted in favor of public safety bills designed to enhance local community safety. Assembly Bill 86 increases the penalty for criminals who traffic children in Wisconsin from a Class C felony, to a Class A felony, which carries a life imprisonment sentence. Assembly Bill 87 requires restitution to be paid immediately to victims of human trafficking. Assembly Bill 61, referred to as the “K9 Riggs Act,” increases the penalties for criminals who intentionally harass, cause injury, or cause death to police and fire animals. The bill is named after a Kenosha County Sheriff’s K9 that was shot in the head by a suspect. Among other bills passed by the Assembly is one requiring parental notification if a child is a victim of alleged sexual misconduct at school. Representative Dallman says he is proud to have once again voted in favor of making sure communities are safer and to keep dangerous criminals off streets. Representative Krug says keeping families safe and making sure violent criminals cannot cause harm will always be one of his top priorities. The bills now go to the state Senate for consideration before heading to the governor.
