3/16/25 Marsh Fire in FDL County Destroys Five Acres

16 March 2025 News

Strong winds stoked a fire that burned 5 acres of mash lands in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Marshfield Saturday. At 11:43 am the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Communications Center got a 911 call from the property owner at W409 County Highway CCC reporting that a controlled burn had gotten out of control and approximately 1 acre of marshland was on fire. Heavy winds caused the fire to spread quickly. Deputies along with firefighters from 11 area fire departments responded to the scene. Fire crews worked to stop the fire from spreading to nearby tree line, eventually containing the blaze to the marsh land. The fire investigation revealed the property owner who reported the fire had been burning garbage in a burn barrel and believed it was fully extinguished, but it accidentally spread to the marsh. The fire is not considered suspicious. No one was injured and no structures were damaged.
