3/13/25 Semi Collides with Train in Ripon

13 March 2025 News

One person was injured when a semi collided with a train and another vehicle at the railroad crossing on Douglas Street between Fenton Street and East Jackson Street in Ripon Wednesday afternoon. Ripon Police tell us they were notified by Fond du Lac County dispatch of the accident at 2:14 pm. At the same time a Town of Ripon Police Officer radioed in the collision as well. Here’s what happened a Wisconsin Southern Railroad train engine was entering the roadway using the railroad crossing. A semi traveling north on Douglas Street failed to yield to the train striking the train engine with its trailer. That collision caused the semi-trailer to collide with a southbound vehicle that had stopped waiting for the train to cross. There was substantial damage to the semi, the passenger car, and the train engine. Douglas Street was closed for four hours. The driver of the semi was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Police were assisted by Ripon Township Police, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, and the State Patrol.
