Legendary Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“On behalf of the entire Green Bay Packers organization, I want to congratulate Sterling on his long overdue election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He left an indelible mark as one of the greatest players of his generation, while also directly contributing to the revival of the Packers during the 1990s,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. “We are extremely happy for Sterling and his family and are forever grateful for all that he gave and accomplished with the Packers.”

Sharpe recorded 8,134 receiving yards and 65 TDs across 112 career games. He was named to the Pro Bowl five times and was an All-Pro three times. His playing career was cut short by a neck injury.

Sharpe is the 29th Green Bay Packer to be named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the 4th since 2020, joining 2022 inductee LeRoy Butler, 2021 inductee Charles Woodson, and 2020 inductee Bobby Dillon.

Sharpe will be inducted alongside former Viking Jared Allen, former Charger Antonio Gates, and former Eagle Eric Allen.

Thursday night is the night, the 2025 class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame set to be unveiled at NFL Honors and former Packers coach. Holmgren is 1 of only 7 coaches to take 2 different franchises to the Super Bowl.

Sharpe’s credentials were condensed to 7 seasons in Green Bay, but his accomplishments? Superb. 5 Pro Bowls, 3 first team All-Pros, and setting NFL single-season receptions record, in back-to-back years.

Super Bowl 59 is Sunday in New Orleans as the Kansas City Chiefs try for a three-peat as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles (17-3)  lost to the Chiefs (17-2) two years ago when they were beaten 38-35. Kickoff is at 5:30 at the Mercedes Done.

Josh Allen edged two-time winner Lamar Jackson for the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award in the closest race since Matt Ryan beat out Tom Brady in 2016.

Allen, who led Buffalo to a fifth straight AFC East title, got 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23 and finished with 383 points. He received 22 second-place votes and one third.

Jackson, who led the Ravens to a second straight AFC North championship, got 26 second-place votes and one fourth for a total of 362 points.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley finished third (120 points) followed by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (82) and Lions QB Jared Goff (47).

Allen threw for 3,731 yards, 28 TDs and had six picks for a 101.4 passer rating. He ran for 531 yards and 12 scores, becoming the first player in NFL history to have five consecutive seasons with at least 40 total touchdowns.

Jackson had career-highs with 4,172 yards passing, 41 TDs to just four interceptions and a 119.6 passer rating, which led the NFL. He got 30 first-place votes to Allen’s 18 to earn AP first-team All-Pro honors.

The last time a first-team All-Pro didn’t win the NFL MVP award was 1987. John Elway was the MVP that season and Joe Montana was first-team All-Pro. The MVP award is given to a player who had the most valuable season while All-Pro is a statistical recognition.

Virginia McCaskey, who inherited the Chicago Bears from her father, George Halas, but avoided the spotlight during four-plus decades as principal owner, has died. She was 102.

McCaskey’s family announced through the team that she died Thursday. She had owned the Bears since her father’s death on Oct. 31, 1983. Like her father, a co-founder of the NFL, McCaskey kept the team in family hands. She gave operational control and the title of president to her eldest son, Michael McCaskey, who served as chairman until being succeeded by brother George McCaskey in 2011.

During her stewardship, the Bears won a Super Bowl in 1986 and lost a second 21 years later.

Four of McCaskey’s sons remain with the Bears’ board of directors: George, Patrick, Brian and Ed. A recent valuation by Forbes.com pegged the team’s worth at $6.4 billion.

McCaskey, the older of Halas’ two children, never expected to find herself in charge. Her brother, George “Mugs” Halas Jr., was being groomed to take over the team, but died suddenly of a heart attack in 1979.

McCaskey assumed ownership upon her father’s death in 1983, and her late husband, Ed McCaskey, succeeded Halas as chairman. Not long after, she turned over control to Michael, the eldest of her 11 children.
