Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points in 22 minutes, and the Oklahoma City Thunder routed the short-handed Milwaukee Bucks 125-96 on Monday night.
Milwaukee was without injured stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton, turning what could have been an exciting rematch of the NBA Cup final that Milwaukee won into a blowout.
Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA’s leading scorer, showed no mercy. He scored 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting in the first quarter as the Thunder took a 39-22 lead. He scored 30 in the first half as the Thunder took a 78-44 lead. He left the game for good with 6:17 remaining and the Thunder ahead 96-54.
Ousmane Dieng finished with 21 points and seven rebounds and Isaiah Joe added 18 points for the Thunder, who improved to 39-9 despite all-star Jalen Williams sitting out with a sprained right wrist.
Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP with nine straight All-Star Game selections, is dealing with right patella tendinopathy. Lillard has a sore left groin. Lopez has back soreness. Middleton’s workload is limited as he comes back from offseason surgery to each of his ankles.
It was too much for the Bucks to overcome in their fourth straight loss. The Bucks had scored at least 100 points in every regular-season game since scoring 99 points against Toronto on Nov. 12.
Ryan Rollins led the Bucks with 16 points.
The Bucks visit Charlotte on Wednesday night.
In Big Ten men’s basketball tonight the 21st ranked Wisconsin Badgers host Indiana.
In Big East men’s basketball this evening #11 Marquette is at St. John’s.
Auburn and Duke remain 1-2 atop The Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll for the third straight week, while Maryland is back in the rankings for the first time in nearly two years.
Bruce Pearl’s Tigers (20-1) held the No. 1 ranking for the fourth consecutive week in Monday’s poll and the third in a row as the unanimous choice. Auburn has claimed 246 of 248 first-place votes over the past month while remaining unbeaten in a rugged Southeastern Conference with nine ranked teams.
Alabama moved up a spot to No. 3, followed by Tennessee jumping four spots to No. 4 in an SEC-heavy top tier. Houston climbed one spot to No. 5 despite an overtime loss to now-No. 13 Texas Tech to end a 33-game home winning streak..
Florida was next at No. 6, followed by Purdue, Iowa State, Michigan State and Texas A&M to round out the top 10.
Marquette dropped to #11 and Wisconsin fell two spots to #21.
Fans will be able to get into American Family Field faster this year, partly with the help of facial recognition technology, the Milwaukee Brewers say.
The team is launching MLB Go-Ahead Entry at the Home Plate West and Third Base gates. The system has ticketholders take a selfie in the MLB Ballpark app. Then machines will scan fans’ faces and validate their tickets for entry.
“This is a completely voluntary opportunity for fans. It’s not required,” Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said. “If a fan does not want to send a selfie to Major League Baseball, they don’t have to. There’s many entrances that are traditional where you just walk in and have your ticket scanned.”
If the program is successful, it could be expanded to more gates, Schlesinger said.
Another streamlined option is Express Lanes. Available at all gates, these lanes will be open to fans who do not have carry-in bags or bags that are smaller than 9″x5″x2″.
Another new feature at Brewers games in 2025 will be The Alley Food Truck Park. Located on the left field Loge Level, the park will feature local food vendors and a new bar. Specific vendors are still being finalized.
Other changes include a reconfigured team store with a customization corner offering fans a place to personalize jerseys.
The Rideshare Lot has been moved to the south end of the Molitor Lot, which the team says will allow for additional capacity and quicker entry and exit for rideshare vehicles.
As part of the Brewers’ new lease for the stadium with the Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District, the team plans to expand offices, resulting in the loss of about 1,600 seats on the Terrace Level.
The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Indiana Mad Ants 130-110.
Terence Davis led the Herd with 26 points while James Akinjo followed with 21 points. Henry Ellenson added a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The top scorers for the Indiana Mad Ants were Quenton Jackson with 34 points and Jahil Okafor with 30 points.
The Wisconsin Herd will head to College Park to take on the Skyhawks on Feb. 8 with tip-off set for 2:00 P.M. CST.
