CHARGES FILED BUT DRIVER ELUDES TWO PURSUITS
Felony eluding and first degree recklessly endangering safety charges are being filed against a suspect who led law enforcement officers on two chases in Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties late Thursday morning. Both pursuits were terminated because of high speeds and the danger to the public. However, the driver is known to law enforcement and has active warrants from probation and parole. The first chase began when a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Sergeant tried to pull over a speeding vehicle on Interstate 41. That pursuit was cut off after 8 miles. A second pursuit occurred when a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle driving erratically on Van Dyne Road in the Town of Eldorado. That pursuit covered 15.5 miles and was terminated south of Oshkosh. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the State Patrol, North Fond du Lac Police, and Fond du Lac Police. Together the two pursuits covered 23.5 miles.
OSHKOSH HOUSE FIRE KILLS TWO DOGS
Firefighters in Oshkosh responded to a home in the 2700 block of Clover Street for a house fire Thursday afternoon. An official with the fire department says the blaze killed two dogs and rendered the home ‘uninhabitable.’ No one was hurt. No one was at home at the time of the fire. The call was initially reported as an explosion, but Public Information Officer John Holland says they don’t really think there was an explosion. He says the fire spread rapidly then burnt itself out. The cause of the fire is being determined.
TOWN OF DEKORRA MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORN CHARGES

Columbia County Sheriff’s officials say evidence gathered during the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Tipperary Road in the Town of Dekorra Thursday morning led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man for possessing child pornography. The arrest of Ryan Milbrath on four counts of possession of child pornography was the culmination of an investigation begun by Madison Police last November. They had received Cybertips from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children regarding Milbrath’s internet activity. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received additional Cybertips. The search warrant was executed by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Madison Police and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
HEARING RESCHEDULED FOR OSHKOSH MURDER SUSPECT

The 23-year-old Oshkosh man suspected in a fatal stabbing outside an Oshkosh pizza restaurant was in Winnebago County Court for a hearing Thursday. Sybastian Crossman was expected to enter a plea and be sentenced on a first-degree reckless homicide charge, but his attorney told the court that a resolution hadn’t been reached in the case. The court scheduled another hearing for April 15th and if the case isn’t resolved then there will be a 4-day jury trial May 5th through May the 8th. Prosecutors say the stabbing occurred outside a pizza restaurant on High Avenue last August 10th. The victim suffered a single puncture wound to the abdomen. According to the criminal complaint Crossman and a friend got into an argument with others including the stabbing victim. The argument moved from inside the restaurant to the outside where the stabbing took place.
FROZEN ROAD DECLARATION ENDS STATEWIDE
The state’s Department of Transportation ended the frozen road declaration for the entire state just after midnight this morning. Class II and posted road restrictions are temporarily on hold as field staff continue to evaluate conditions amid the rapid warmup in recent days. Motor carriers are encouraged to monitor the seasonal weight restriction program website and the Frozen Roads hotline at 608-266-8417 for the latest information. The DOT and county highway personnel monitor temperature forecasts, along with frost tubes-liquid-filled devices under pavement-to help determine when roads are adequately frozen to accommodate heavier loads or thawed to lift declarations. Class II roads include about 1,400 miles of state highways susceptible to damage from heavy trucks during the spring thaw period as frost leaves the ground.

SCRUTINIZING ARPA SPENDING
As state legislators create another two-year state budget, many school districts, municipalities, and counties are looking at life after American Rescue Plan Act monies have been spent. State Senator John Jagler says that’s something he will be looking at following redistricting including the 13th State Senate District. He says some spent it wisely on one-time projects, on capital projects. He says on the other hand some used it to create positions that they will have to continue to fund. The state lawmaker from Watertown says it will be interesting as he goes through the numbers to see who has caused themselves a “financial pickle” in the last couple of years with ARPA money.
FLOOD PREVENTION EFFORTS FOR YOUR BASEMENT
The Director of Fond du Lac County’s Emergency Management Office urges residents to consider the layout of their basement when preparing for the possibility of flooding. John Ross says a flood can occur just about any time of the year, but especially during the spring during snowmelt. Unless your basement has been waterproofed Ross says it could save you some money to have appliances like washer and dryers, water heaters, furnaces, and HVAC systems elevated above the floor. It’s also recommended to have electric outlets elevated at least three feet off the basement floor. Other recommendations include keeping gutters clean, directing downspouts away from your foundation, repairing cracks in your foundation, improving grading so water flows away from your house, and covering window sills.
NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
Schools across the nation have been celebrating National Public Schools Week this week, including the Berlin Area School District. Superintendent Emmett Durtschi says it’s the seventh year National Public Schools Week has been celebrated. It’s put on by 12 educational organizations. He feels what makes public schools special is they are available to everyone who wants to get an education. Durtschi says with the Trump Administration taking office there has been a lot of talk about education, but education wasn’t originally mentioned in the U.S. Constitution-it was however in Wisconsin’s Constitution from the very beginning. Wisconsin has the sixth oldest Constitution in the United States. Durtschi feels being educated at a public gathering face-to-face still has value.
