NEW STATE SENATE REPRESENTATION
State Senator John Jagler is getting to know the new 13th State Senate District following redistricting. Monday he was in Ripon to tour the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area facility being built in Ripon and he also met with Ripon City Administrator Adam Sonntag. Jagler says introducing himself to people he didn’t previously represent is a process that takes time but is worthwhile. He says he’s open to meeting with anyone that wants to meet with him whether that’s school or local government officials, community groups or individuals. Ripon and some of the surrounding areas were previously represented by the 14th State Senate District.
OSHKOSH’S NEW CITY MANAGER STARTS

Oshkosh’s new City Manager Rebecca Grill started Monday, succeeding Mark Rohloff who worked for the city for 16 years. Grill has been the City Administrator/City Clerk for the city of West Allis for the last nine years. She has approximately 20 years of municipal leadership experience. Oshkosh City Councilman Jacob Floam says a few of the things he likes about her is that she worked in the same capacity for a city that is roughly the same in size and demographics as Oshkosh. Floam liked her openness with the community and Council during interviews and meet and greets for the City Manager’s position. She was one of over 30 people that applied for the City Manager’s job. Grill will sit in on her first City Council meeting tonight as the City’s Manager.

FLOOD AWARENESS WEEK
Ready Wisconsin is urging everyone to take steps to understand the risks flooding can bring. To encourage everyone in the state to be prepared, Governor Tony Evers has declared this week as Flood Safety Awareness Week in the state. Home and property owners can assess the potential for flooding on their property if they live in a flood plain, near a body of water, or have a basement. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has a Flood Map Service Center website to find official flood maps and access other tools to understand flood risks. Ready Wisconsin recommends staying informed about the weather, protecting your family by creating an emergency plan, consider flood insurance, and moving valuables out of your basement. During and after a flood they recommend never driving or walking through a flooded area. If your home floods, follow cleaning and disinfection guidelines to avoid mold growth. If the power goes out for more than four hours, throw out refrigerated food or any food that came into contact with floodwater. If your drinking water well is flooded, disinfect the well and test the water to make sure it’s safe before drinking it. If you use a generator, keep it outside at least 20 feet from your home to avoid illness or death from carbon monoxide, which can occur in enclosed spaces.

DNR STAMP DESIGN CONTEST

The state’s Department of Natural Resources is now accepting artwork entries for the Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamp Design Contests. The winning designs will appear on the 2026 collection of stamps. Each year, local artists from around Wisconsin compete for an opportunity to showcase their talents, commemorate their work and promote wildlife conservation across the state. Hunters are required to purchase a species-specific stamp to legally harvest any of these game birds. The sales of these three stamps generate hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for species management throughout the state, including habitat management, restoration, and education and research projects. Stamp design entries must be received or postmarked by August 1st. Judging will take place on August 23rd, at the Waterfowl Hunters Expo in Oshkosh. The winners of the 2025 contest were Robert Leum of Holmen who designed the winning stamps in the Wild Turkey and Pheasant categories and Jon Rickaby of Suamico in the Waterfowl category. Rules, entry information and reproduction rights agreements are available on the DNR’s website.
