HORICON MAN FACING CHARGES FOR CHASE AND CRASH
An 18-year-old Horicon man is facing multiple charges for taking a vehicle, driving recklessly, and crashing it into several vehicles in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Beaver Dam. Dodge County Sheriff’s officials say it started out Wednesday afternoon as a report of an erratic driver in Horicon who was driving into oncoming traffic on State Highway 33. A Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle just outside the City of Beaver Dam and gave pursuit. The driver of the fleeing vehicle, Devon Hambly, lost control during the pursuit and crashed into a utility power box, several signs, and several parked cars in the parking lot of a McDonald’s. He continued to resist as he was removed from the car. Hambly was treated at Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam for non-life-threatening injuries. He will be booked into the Dodge County Jail on charges of eluding an officer and resisting or obstructing an officer. Traffic violations include operating under the influence and operating without a valid driver’s license. In addition, Horicon Police are pursuing a charge of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent. Since the Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam Police were involved in the pursuit, the State Patrol is investigating the crash. (Dodge County Sheriff’s photo).
FIRE DESTROYS HOME IN GREEN LAKE COUNTY
Fire destroyed a home in Green Lake County’s Town of Manchester Wednesday afternoon. The Markesan Fire Department responded to W3397 just before 2:30 pm for a kitchen fire. The fire had extended into the attic space. Fire crews were on the scene approximately 2 ½ hours. No injuries were reported. The home was a total loss. TEENS THAT ALLEGEDLY THREATENED SHOOTING AT CAMPBELLSPORT HIGH SCHOOL IN COURT
The two teens who allegedly threatened to shoot up Campbellsport High School appeared in Fond du Lac County Court Wednesday. During the detention hearing the judge ruled there was probable cause in the case but allowed the two teens to go home. The judge set some conditions which included an 8 pm mandatory curfew and prohibited them from having access to weapons or ammunition. They also must always be accompanied by an adult. The two 9th graders were taken into custody last week after talking to other students and staff about plans for a school shooting. Both teens have court hearings again next month.
DODGE COUNTY SHERIFF ON GOVERNOR’S REVAMP OF THE DOC
The Dodge County Sheriff is hoping the state’s Department of Corrections will implement recommendations he made following an investigation into the deaths of four inmates at Waupun Correctional Institution. It led to charges against nine employees including the warden. Among the suggestions were renovating or replacing Waupun Correctional and Green Bay Correctional Institutions. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the closure of Green Bay Correctional and the renovation of Waupun Correctional in the Governor’s Budget proposal are excellent first starts, but he says the closure of two maximum security prisons without adequate replacement space to house equal numbers of inmates is a dangerous proposition for the state. He takes issue with other portions of the Governor’s planned revamping of the DOC system. You can read more about them on the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
FDL COUNTY EXECUTIVE COMMENTS ON GOVERNOR’S PROPOSED BUDGET
Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says Governor Tony Evers two-year State Budget proposal has both good and bad points to it. He says Republicans in the State Legislature quickly dismissed the Governor’s proposal basically saying they would start from scratch with their own version. Kaufman says one thing that he found intriguing was the Governor’s proposal to increase state shared revenue by three percent for those counties not seeing enough of a construction increase. On the other hand he says the Governor’s $119 billion budget calls for a 20 percent increase in spending which Kaufman doesn’t favor.
GREEN LAKE COUNTY PROJECT GETS DNR GRANT FUNDING
The state’s Department of Natural Resources recently awarded more than $6 million in grant funding for lake organizations, nonprofit organizations and municipal and county governments throughout the state. One construction project is in Green Lake County, where the Green Lake Sanitary District has collaborated with many organizations and agencies to install a new barrier that will prevent common carp migration to a marsh adjacent to Green Lake. Another project would restore an unnamed tributary to Lake Winnebago in Calumet County. This year the DNR’s grant program received 418 applications from eligible participants requesting nearly $8 million. Of the applicants, 371 grants totaling more than $6 million were awarded. The projects included education and outreach activities, management planning, habitat restoration, runoff management, water quality improvement projects and aquatic invasive species prevention and management.

Michelle Reinen says scammers will make certain demands. Those demands will include providing private information over a phone call, text, or email. Sometimes this is done by requesting victims complete a customer service survey. They will say you need to pay in cryptocurrency, gift cards, or a banking app. They may ask you to re-ship a package Spectrum mistakenly delivered, possibly using a shipping label they will provide. They may ask you to make a payment right away to receive a discount on your service bill. They may also tell you that you need to download an attachment to view a receipt, bill, or an important message. The attachment will likely contain malware.
