2/17/25 Ice Unsafe on Beaver Dam Lake

17 February 2025 News

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning those using Beaver Dam Lake after three snowmobiles went through the ice in a 24-hour period. An area of the lake generally north/northeast of Evergreen Island near the south end of the lake has been identified as particularly dangerous. Residents in the area informed deputies that this area had recently been open water, and a small layer of ice is now concealed by the recent snowfalls. Saturday afternoon Sheriff’s deputies and Beaver Dam Fire and Paramedics responded to two snowmobiles traveling together that went through the ice. Both riders were able to get out of the water and were assisted to shore by a passerby, and had returned home while responders were working to locate and rescue them. Sunday morning the same agencies responded to a lone snowmobile that went through in the same area. The Beaver Dam Fire Department picked up that rider on their hovercraft and brought the rider back to shore. The rider was wet and cold, but uninjured. The map above has a pin attached showing the unsafe location on the lake. It is not the only unsafe location. (Dodge County Sheriff’s maps).
