8 January 2025 Sports

The Packers return to the practice field today as they get ready for Sunday’s Wild Card matchup in Philadelphia against the Eagles. Green Bay is seeded 7th in the NFC while the Eagles are seeded third.

Chase Ross scored a career-high 27 points as No. 7 Marquette rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to beat Georgetown 74-66 on Tuesday night.

Stevie Mitchell added 13 points, David Joplin scored 12 and Kam Jones had 11 for Marquette (14-2, 5-0 Big East), which won its fifth straight game.

Malik Mack led Georgetown (12-3, 3-1) with 18 points. Micah Peavy added 13 points, Thomas Sorber 11 and Caleb Williams 10. Sorber had 13 rebounds.

The Hoyas’ five-game winning streak was snapped.

Marquette’s Tre Norman and Georgetown’s Jordan Burks each were assessed first-half technical fouls for directing words at the opposing team.

Up next, Marquette visits DePaul on Jan. 14.

The Bucks are back in action tonight hosting San Antonio. Milwaukee is coming off a 128-104 win over the Raptors Monday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded his fourth, triple-double of the season.

An upswing to close out the 2024 campaign couldn’t save Antonio Pierce’s job. The Las Vegas Raiders fired their head coach on Tuesday, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported, per sources informed of the situation. The team has since announced the news.

Meanwhile, The Cowboys denied the Bears’ request to interview McCarthy for their open head coach position, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

On Monday, NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported the Bears requested an interview with McCarthy, but he remains under contract with the Cowboys until Jan. 14. So, for now, whether the Cowboys re-sign him, continue to mull things over or move on from McCarthy remains to be seen. Tuesday’s refusal to grant the Bears permission could be an indication McCarthy will be back.

That’s far from official, though.

There was a data security breach of the Packers Pro Shop website, leading the team to offer credit monitoring and identity theft services.

The data breach did not extend to transactions at the store. It also did not affect purchases made with gift cards, Pro Shop website accounts, PayPal or Amazon Pay, according to a letter sent to customers.

The team issued this statement:

Maintaining the privacy and security of our fans’ personal information is of utmost importance to the Green Bay Packers. The Packers Pro Shop’s website, managed and hosted for us by a third-party vendor, had a malicious code inserted by hackers. Immediately after being alerted to the malicious code, we began an investigation with the assistance of outside experts and the malicious code was removed the same day.We are continuing to work closely with our vendors to ensure they continue to strengthen their security controls to prevent future incidents. The incident affected only a limited number of individuals who conducted credit card transactions on the website during a short time period. All potentially affected individuals have been sent a notification letter with additional information on the incident and includes three years of complementary credit monitoring and identity theft protection.

The incident was limited to the single e-commerce website and did not affect any other Packers information technology or data. We are working closely with our vendors and third-party experts to ensure our sites are as secure as possible for our fans.

According to a story posted by BleepingComputer, which tracks data breaches, the transactions potentially impacted were between Sept. 23-24, and Oct. 3-23.
