Giannis Antetokounmpo had 34 points and 15 rebounds to help the Milwaukee Bucks beat the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers 123-109 on Sunday night.
Damian Lillard added 25 points for Milwaukee, which completed a 4-0 homestand. Khris Middleton had 13 points and eight assists in 25 minutes off the bench. Brook Lopez added 12 points, and Taurean Prince had 11.
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with with 37 points and seven assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 points, Ricky Council IV had 13 and Eric Gordon 10. Playing for the second consecutive night, Philadelphia has lost six straightand nine of 11.
The 76ers (15-26) were once again missing several key players — Joel Embiid, Paul George, Kyle Lowry and Guerschon Yabusele among them — due to injuries, but hung with the Bucks until fading late. Milwaukee moved to a season-high seven games above .500 at 24-17.
Rookie Adem Bona, making his first start for Philadelphia, had 10 points in 24 minutes. He was 4 of 4 from the field after going 5 or 5 on Saturday night against Indiana.
Milwaukee is at New Orleans on Wednesday night to start a six-game trip.
The former Packers director of public relations, who was hired by Vince Lombardi and worked with greats like Bart Starr, passed away on Sunday, the team confirmed, Chuck Lane died on Sunday at the age of 82. He was hired to promote the Harlem Globetrotters in the midwest after graduating college, and then in 1966 Lombardi hired him to be the team’s publicity director. He was in charge of the team’s public relations for the first two Super Bowls.
While with the Packers, Lane also helped in organizing the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Association. He was a member of the original board and selection committee, and was the director emeritus of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame up until his death.
In 1974, Lane resigned to work with Bart Starr, promoting the former QB’s candidacy to be the next Packers head coach. After Starr was named coach, he rehired Lane as PR director, but would eventually fire him in 1980.
Lane continued to live in Green Bay and was active around the city until his health began to decline in the last few years.
In Sunday’s divisional playoff game in the NFC, the Eagles won at home over the Rams 28-22 on a snow day, to advance to the Conference Championship game in Philadelphia against the Eagles.
Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley rushed for 205 yards on 26 carries and scored twice to lead the way. Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 15 of 20 for 128 yards as Philadelphia pounded the football on the ground. Hurts also gained 70 yards and scored a touchdown.
The Rams’ Matthew Stafford was 26 of 44 for 324 yards and two touchdowns and Kyren Williams gained 106 yards on 19 carries but it wasn’t enough for the Rams, who ended with a 10-7 record.
In the AFC Divisional game, Buffalo held on at home against the Ravens to win in the snow, 27-25 and will advance to play at Kansas City next Sunday in the Conference Championship game against the Chiefs.
Ravens tight end Mark Andrews dropped a pass on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game.
The Bill Josh Allen was 16-22 for 127 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns and James Cook rushed for 67 yards for the Bills.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was 18 of 25 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and Derrick Henry rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown, as Baltimore ended its season at 12-5.
In Saturday’s NFL divisional playoff action, the Kansas City Chiefs won at home over the Houston Texans 23-14.
Patrick Mahomes has never lost in the divisional round of the playoffs with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans still have never won.
Mahomes threw for 117 yards and hit tight end Travis Kelce seven times for 117 yards and a touchdown pass.. The Chiefs pass sacked Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud eight times. The two-time defending Super Bowl champions head to the AFC title game for the seventh consecutive season.
In the NFC divisional game Saturday night, Jayden Daniels threw for two touchdowns in a flawless performance by Washington’s dazzling rookie, and the Commanders stunned the Detroit Lions 45-31 on Saturday night to reach the NFC championship game for the first time since winning the Super Bowl 33 years ago.
The sixth-seeded Commanders (14-5) were nearly double-digit underdogs against the Super Bowl favorite Lions (15-3) and overcame doubts as they did all season with a rookie quarterback, new coach and general manager.
Detroit, the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the first time, doomed its chances by turning it over five times.
Washington rookie Mike Sainristil had two interceptions, including one on a trick play with receiver Jameson Williams throwing into coverage off a reverse in the fourth quarter. And Quan Martin returned a pick 40 yards for a touchdown.
Jared Goff threw three picks and lost a fumble, turning it over three times in the ill-fated first half.
Daniels finished with 299 yards passing and 51 yards rushing, and — just as important — didn’t turn the ball over.
He became the second rookie quarterback to knock off a top-seeded team, joining Joe Flacco, who led Baltimore past Tennessee on Jan. 10, 2009.
John Blackwell scored 28 points and No. 24 Wisconsin defeated Southern California 84-69 Saturday afternoon to extend its winning streak to seven games. Blackwell had his third straight game with at least 20 points. The sophomore point guard has 27 assists to 14 turnovers during the Badgers’ winning streak.
Max Klesmit added 18 points and Nolan Winter 13 for the Badgers (15-3, 5-2 Big Ten), who have an average margin of victory of 16.1 points during their win streak.
Saint Thomas led the Trojans (11-7, 3-4) with 19 points and Rashaun Agee scored 15. USC, which had won its last two games, led for only 49 seconds on Saturday.
Wisconsin had a 51-32 lead with 17:54 remaining before USC went on a 13-0 run. The Trojans eventually whittled it down to three before the Badgers regained control.
Zach Freemantle had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Xavier hung on in the final seconds to beat No. 7
Marquette 59-57 to earn its third straight victory while snapping the Golden Eagles’ six-game winning streak Saturday.
Xavier (12-7, 4-4 Big East) never trailed and led by as many as 19 but needed to make a stop in the final seconds to preserve the victory. Xavier’s Dailyn Swain appeared to knock the ball away as Marquette’s Stevie Mitchell was driving to the basket before a potential tying shot could be attempted.
Marquette (15-3, 6-1) had won its last five meetings in this series, including a 72-70 triumph at Xavier on Dec. 21. Freemantle didn’t play against Marquette last month because of a lower-body injury.
David Joplin had 17 points to lead Marquette.
