12/23/24 Finding Convenient Eye Care Services in One Location

23 December 2024 News

Continued issues with blurred vision, especially at night, was causing Peggy Adamski great concern. A Ripon resident, Peggy had been experiencing poor vision – even with glasses – for the past three to four years, but saw a heightened concern in the last two years.

At 72 years of age, Peggy knew it was time to seek help. “I have been wearing glasses since I was eight years old,” Peggy shares. “But even with my glasses, it was getting increasingly difficult to see clearly while driving, being able to see and read signs that were further away. It was also impacting my ability to read as I could not see the words as well.”

In her website search for an ophthalmologist, Peggy found Bryce Aul, MD, an SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic, who serves patients at the SSM Health Eye Care office at SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital.

“I figured that getting to Waupun from Ripon was not a very far drive, and Dr. Aul was new to the area and in Waupun and a younger, experienced doctor so I reached out to give it a try.”

That decision was immediately confirmed for Peggy when she visited Dr. Aul for the first time. “It was a totally different experience from what I expected,” she says. “Dr. Aul and the team made we feel so comfortable and they were so professional. I will never forget with Dr. Aul first introduced himself, he asked me to call him Bryce. I was so impressed!

Looking at various tests, Dr. Aul confirmed that Peggy was a good candidate for cataract surgery. “He asked me first how I was feeling, and I shared with him the difficulties I was experiencing with blurry vision,” Peggy explains. “He explained all my options, including his recommendation for implants in both eyes – one for near distance and one for far distance. He was totally professional and explained everything even using his computer to show me better detail. Dr. Aul was so down to earth about everything. I felt really at ease with our next steps.”

Within two weeks, Peggy was scheduled for her first of two cataracts procedures at SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital – the same facility as her eye care visit. “The office made sure that insurance was taken care of,” Peggy recalls. “They reviewed all the paperwork with me while I was there. It was so impressive that they took care of everything and made it easier for me.”

Peggy arrived at the hospital with a good friend to accompany her safely home after the procedure. “The hospital team was very professional and helped me through the normal nerves when having surgery. Like Dr. Aul, they made sure I understood what was to happen during the procedure. They treated me with respect, and they even brought coffee and food to my friend, and warm blankets to comfort me.”

As the procedure began and Peggy was sedated, she heard someone singing. Apparently, she learned, Dr. Aul sings during his procedures providing a calming presence. “It was very soothing,” Peggy says. “I didn’t feel anything. I was totally calm and all of a sudden it was over.”

Peggy was delighted to experience immediate results – no blurring in her right eye. And, since Dr. Aul added medications with the new implant, there was no need for medication drops.

Two weeks later, Peggy saw the same results with her left eye. “I had the same wonderful experience as I had the first time. I received great care and everything was taken care of for me.”

Today, Peggy’s vision is incredible, and she is doing everything she can to protect her eyes, including wearing sunglasses to prevent any sun damage.

She continues to share her success and satisfaction with others. “The team, including Dr. Aul, was very professional and listened to me during the entire process,” Peggy shares. “They explained everything so clearly and gave a very thorough exam. Dr. Aul gives you the time you deserve and gives you the best options he has available.”

Another pleasant surprise for Peggy was that all her eye care needs could be met at one facility. “That was one of the best surprises,” she says. “I didn’t realize that Dr. Aul’s office was at the hospital. I was so happy to have everything in one place. It is wonderful to go to one place and not have to drive to different locations.”

A convenient, accessible location was a positive aspect for Peggy. “Having Dr. Aul right here is so important to this area in general,” she says. “So many communities are nearby like Ripon, Fairwater and Brandon. We don’t have to drive all the way to Fond du Lac.”
