12/14/24 Barn Fire in the Town of Byron

14 December 2024 News

Fire destroyed a barn and took the lives of 15 pigs inside it at W7007 Lost Arrow Road in Fond du Lac County’s Town of Byron Friday night. The fire was reported just before 9 pm. The barn, a 40 by 80-foot pole shed was fully engulfed when deputies and Oakfield firefighters arrived. They were joined by seven other fire departments, Oakfield First Responders, Fond du Lac and Lifestar Ambulance services. Although the building was a total loss, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and propane tanks. The building, the pigs inside it, and the buildings contents were lost to the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but numerous heat lamps inside the building are believed to be a factor. The homeowner, Nicholas Rumbuc, was not on the scene. A passerby called in the fire. No one was injured battling the fire.
