TEEN TRIES TO ENTER A KENOSHA SCHOOL WITH A FIREARM
Police in Kenosha arrested a 13-year-old boy Thursday who allegedly tried to enter Roosevelt Elementary School while armed. He walked into a secure area of the school with a backpack just after 9 am. When school staff approached him he fled. Kenosha Unified School District schools were put on a secure hold. Police got numerous tips about him. He turned himself in Thursday afternoon. The teen is a student in the school district. Kenosha Unified School District Superintendent Jeffrey Weiss told media the teen tried to enter the school numerous times, checking doors and entrances before coming around to the secured entry. Investigators recovered at least one video of the teen holding a firearm, in which he appeared to be practicing room entry techniques. State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jill Underly issued a statement on the incident saying, “I am so thankful for school staff in Kenosha for preventing a young person with a firearm from entering the building. Their quick actions protected students and ensured nobody was hurt. The threat of violence in our schools is real, and staff must prepare every day.” (Kenosha Unified School District photo).
UPDATE ON MISSING KAYAKER SEARCH
It’s been nearly 90 days since a 44-year-old Watertown man failed to return from kayaking on Green Lake, today Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials will give an update on their search. The search was briefly suspended at the end of last month while Sheriff’s officials waited for Bruce’s Legacy and Recovery Service to return from another effort in Wyoming. The Service’s towable sonar had become integral in the search efforts for the body of Ryan Borgwardt. At the end of October Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk said they had searched over 1500 acres on the west end of Green Lake. Ryan went kayaking on Sunday, August 11th and failed to return that night. His vehicle was found near Dodge Memorial County Park. An initial search found the overturned kayak with a life jacket attached. A subsequent search turned up a water bottle, a tackle box and a fishing rod belonging to him. The Sheriff’s Office will hold a press conference at the Justice Center in Green Lake at 3:30 this afternoon to provide an update.

JESSE VANG BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL
A Manitowoc County judge this week found probable cause to bind Jesse Vang over for trial in the death of 3-year-old Elijah Vue. Vang, the boyfriend of the boy’s mother Katrina Bauer, was in court for a preliminary hearing. He and Baur are both charged in the toddler’s death. Vang is charged with two felonies of repeated acts of physical abuse of a child causing death, and hiding a corpse. In September Elijah’s body was discovered by a person checking their property ahead of hunting season. The location is just a few miles from Vang’s apartment in Two Rivers. Prosecutors called two special agents to the stand to testify. During their testimony they described videos, photos, and multiple messages between Vang and Elijah’s mother in regard to Elijah’s punishment for alleged bad behavior. The defense challenged allegations of physical abuse. During questioning by the State, a special agent testified that the property owner where the remains were found had hired Vang for a job back in 2023. An agent also testified they found Vang’s Google search history showing map data that zoomed in on the area of land near where the remains were recovered. Vang was bound over for trial. He will be arraigned on November 18th.
RIPON CHOSEN FOR RANDOM BALLOT RECOUNT
Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says 15 different municipal wards across the county were chosen for recounting of ballots following Tuesday’s General Election. They include Wards 4 through 6 in Ripon, Ward 1 in the Town of Rosendale, Ward 1 in the Village of Brandon, Wards 1, 6, and 13 in the City of Fond du Lac, Wards 1 through 6 in the Town of Taycheedah, and Ward 1 in the Village of St. Cloud. She says there is nothing suspect about the voting, but per state statute they are required to recount a certain number of ballots after each general election. The recount is for ballots in the Presidential and U.S. Senate races. It’s done by hand. She says usually the voting machines are more accurate than a hand count.

If weather conditions permit 3 skydivers will bring in flags on the grassy area behind the school around 9:30. The program in the gym starts at 9:45 am. The community is invited.
