TRUMP CLAIMS VICTORY
About 1:25 this morning former President Donald Trump took the stage with his family at West Palm Beach County Convention Center and declared victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. At the time he was just a few electoral votes shy of the 270 needed to win the presidency. Battle ground states Wisconsin and Michigan were still up in the air at the time. He has since been declared the winner with Wisconsin putting him over the top. Trump told the gathering of supporters, “This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.” He thanked his supporters, family, running mate J.D. Vance, Billionaire Elon Musk, and others. Republicans also gained the majority in the Senate and were on their way to do the same in the House.
US SENATE AND CONGRESSIONAL RACES
Wisconsin remained in the national spotlight early this morning with election results still pending in some key counties. Republican challenger Eric Hovde was leading Democratic incumbent U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, but Baldwin took back a narrow lead. Baldwin claimed victory. She has been representing Wisconsin in the State Assembly, Congress, and the U.S. Senate for nearly 40 years.
Republican Congressman Glenn Grothman easily defeated Democratic challenger John Zarbano garnering about 62 percent of the vote in the 6th District race. In the 5th District incumbent Republican Congressman Scott Fitzgerald got 64 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Ben Steinhoff. In the 8th Congressional District Republican Tony Wied received 57 percent of the vote to win his race with Democrat Kristin Lyerly.
STATE ASSEMBLY AND SENATE RACES
Joan Ballweg’s long terms in the State Assembly and Senate has ended. Democratic challenger Sarah Keyeski defeated her in the race for the newly redistricted 14th State Senate District. Keyeski received 51 percent of the vote. In the 20th State Senate race Republican Dan Feyen who currently represents the 18th State Senate District defeated Democrat Michael Rapp picking up nearly 71 percent of the vote.
In State Assembly races Republican Alex Dallman who currently represents the 41st District got almost 70 percent of the vote cast in the 39th Assembly District to defeat Democrat Christine Gordon. Other winners in State Assembly races included Republicans Lindee Rae Brill in the 27th, Mark Born in the 37th, Kevin Petersen in the 57th, Robert Brooks in the 59th, Jerry O’Connor in the 60th, and Scott Krug in the 72nd. In the 54th Republican Tim Paterson was narrowly leading Democrat Lori Palmeri.
REFERENDUM VOTING
In referendum voting 71 percent of voters across the state favored a change to a Wisconsin Constitutional Amendment on voter eligibility.
There were quite a few school district referendums. In the Berlin School District voters rejected a request to exceed the district’s revenue cap by $7 million over four years. Fifty-three percent of voters voted against it. Voters in the Beaver Dam School District passed a $107 million referendum. Markesan School District voters passed a $26 million referendum. North Fond du Lac School District voters rejected a $12 million operational referendum. An operational referendum in the Oakfield School District failed. Omro School District voters passed two referendum questions. One asked permission to exceed revenue caps by $1.9 million over 5 years and the other to make $26.5 million in improvements. A referendum in the Wautoma Area School District asking for $39.8 million in improvements narrowly failed.
COUNTY RACE
In one of the few contested County races, Republican Susan Snyder got 60 percent of the vote cast for Winnebago County Register of Deeds to defeat Democrat Christopher Larson. Larson is currently the Chief Deputy in the Register of Deeds office.
