Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 23 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks past the Toronto Raptors 99-85 on Tuesday night in an NBA Cup game between teams that entered with the two worst records in the league.
Bobby Portis added 17 points off the bench for Milwaukee (3-8). Brook Lopez scored 13 points while AJ Green and Ryan Rollins had 12 apiece.
Gradey Dick paced the Raptors (2-10) with 32 points, a career high for the second-year player. Jakob Poeltl scored 13 points and Chris Boucher had 12.
The Bucks began to pull away midway through the third quarter and pushed their lead to 21 points early in the fourth. Toronto got within 10 points with less than five minutes remaining but did not get closer.
The Bucks were without star guard Damian Lillard, who is in the concussion protocol, while the Raptors’ Immanuel Quickley sat out with an elbow injury.
Raptors: Dick had 22 first-half points, which included making 12 of 14 free throws. He came in averaging 19 points per game.
Bucks: Milwaukee attempted 31 3-pointers in the first half as the Raptors focused their defensive attention on Antetokounmpo in and around the paint. The Bucks finished 16 of 56 (28.6%) from deep.
The Bucks led 54-43 at halftime, but the Raptors went on an 11-0 run to start third quarter. The Bucks responded with an 11-2 run, capped by Green’s 3-pointer.
The Bucks halted a two-game skid, while the Raptors have lost five straight.
The Bucks host Detroit on Wednesday.
The Packers return to the practice filed today for the first time in more than aa week after having their bye. Green Bay (6-3) faces the Bears (4-5) at Soldier Field Sunday in an NFC North Division matchup.
The Packers are hoping to have a number of injured players healthy, who were banged up going into the bye. Among those, quarterback Jordan Love, along with center Josh Myers, who’s working through a wrist injury.
The Packers (6-3) are 1 1/2 games behind Detroit (8-1) and a half-game behind Minnesota (6-2) in the NFC North standings.
Not focusing on details is what cost the Packers at times during the first half of the season. Wide receiver Jayden Reed said he noticed that while watching film from the Lions game during the bye week.
The Packers have not lost to the Bears since 2018.
The Chicago Bears have fired their offensive coordinator five days before a game against the Green Bay Packers.
The team fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after the team’s recent struggles. Former Wisconsin Badgers running back coach Thomas Brown will take over that job.
Brown takes over after recent struggles by rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears have lost three straight games and only scored 27 points combined in those three games.
The Packers face the Bears in Chicago at noon on Sunday.
The Green Bay Packers are giving back to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Athletic Department.
On Tuesday, the team and UW-Green Bay announced the Packers are giving the university $250,000, which helps kickstart a fundraising campaign with a goal of $1 million.
The gift is in honor of Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy, who is retiring in July.
As a result, UW-Green Bay athletic director Josh Moon becomes the first Mark Murphy Endowed Director of Athletics.
The endowment includesdiscretionary funds to support the Athletic Department’s greatest need and help the University remain competitive in Division I sports.
Moon said Tuesday the generous donation from the Packers, and the fundraising effort, will benefit each program at UWGB.
