13 November 2024 News

The 50-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of trying to kill his wife in March has pled no contest to an attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge. Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza entered the plea during a hearing in Fond du Lac County Court this morning. The charge has enhancers for use of a dangerous weapon and domestic abuse. Three other charges were read into the record and dismissed. District Attorney Eric Toney says Lopez-Mendoza was in the country illegally and is facing up to 65 years in prison. He will be sentenced on March 18th. According to the criminal complaint his family was kicking him out of their home on County Road K on March 22nd after a long history of domestic violence. He argued with his wife and at some point stabbed her with a kitchen knife in the stomach three times. He fled the residence in his vehicle and was picked up the next day during a traffic stop in Ozaukee County. The victim was taken to the hospital for surgery.
