4 October 2024 News

Ripon College students got an opportunity to see a presidential candidate and possible history in the making when Vice President Kamala Harris held a rally at the college Thursday. Ben Rahlf Spence is a senior from Janesville. He is majoring in biology and secondary education. He appreciated the rare opportunity the students and the rest of the community and Harris supporters were given. “I think it is great, I mean politics aside I think it is really cool to get to see like a major political figure just in person, so. I don’t know how many times you’re going to get to do that so.”

Emily Kravala is a senior from Iron Ridge. She is majoring in physics and philosophy. She says for her the rally might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. “I think it’s kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for it to be here and for me to be able to be in school to experience it.”

One of the Ripon College students attending a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris says it’s the second time she has been able to witness a speech by a major political figure. For Lauren Bahr of Wittenberg the first was when she was in high school when got to attend the 2016 presidential inauguration. Now she is a senior majoring in history and secondary education. She feels there is a value to attending such an event no matter what the party affiliation. “I think that any sort of political experience like this is very exciting. Even party ties aside attending this kind of event especially with major political figures is very valuable.”

The college hosted an appearance by then Vice President Mike Pence during the 2020 Presidential Campaign.
