The Packers return to the practice field as they get ready for an NFC North showdown with the Lions on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Green Bay (6-2) has won four straight, after Sunday’s win at Jacksonville 30-27, while Detroit comes in at 6-1 after demolishing the Titans 52-14.
The big question is will Jordan Love start at quarterback. Love left Sunday’s game in the third quarter with a groin injury. Coach Matt LaFleur said Monday he’ll play if he can. If not backup Malik Willis will start in his place. Willis came in the third quarter against the Jaguars and engineered the game-winning drive, resulting in a 24-yard field goal by Brandon McManus. Willis is 3-0 in this season after starting in game’s two and three, after Love was injured in the season-opener in Brazil.
Another question mark is the status of cornerback Jaire Alexander, who tweaked his knee late in the Jacksonville game. LaFleur said Monday he’ll play against the Lions, if it’s not too painful.
Sunday’s game starts at 3:25 with the pregame at 1:00 and can be heard on FM 1023, The Bug.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers have signed LB Jamin Davis to the practice squad and released LB Chris Russell from the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Tuesday.
Davis (6-3, 234), a fourth-year player, was originally selected by the Washington Commanders in the first round (No. 19 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Kentucky. He played in 50 games with 36 starts for Washington (2021-24), recording 281 tackles (173 solo), 21 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, 10 QB hits, an interception, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a tackle on special teams. In 2022, Davis led the team with a career-high 104 tackles while also setting career bests in solo tackles (68), tackles for a loss (nine), fumble recoveries (two), sacks (three, tied in 2023) and QB hits (five). He will wear No. 44 for the Packers.
The Yankees avoided a World Series sweep Tuesday night and beat the Dodgers 11-4, but still trail 3-1 in the series.
Freddy Freeman gave the Dodgers the early lead with his third home run of the series, a two-run shot in the first inning .Freeman became the first player in history to homer in six consecutive World Series games, dating back to his trip to the Fall Classic with Atlanta in 2021. He has homered in every game of the ‘24 World Series — including a potentially Series-defining walk-off grand slam in Game 1.
But the Yankees came back with a run in the second inning and then Anthony Volpe (Vol-pee) hit a grand slam in the fourth to give New York its first lead.
After the Dodgers scored two runs in the fifth to make it 5-4, the Yankees scored once in the sixth and then erupted for five in the 8th.
Clay Holmes, now 4-1 in the post season, picked up the win while Dan Hudson (0-1,) took the loss.
Game five is tonight in as the Yankees will send RHP Gerrit Cole (1-0) to the mound against Dodgers RHP Jack Flaherty (1-2). First pitch is at 7:08 CDT.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are trading offensive tackle Cam Robinson to the Vikings in exchange for draft pick compensation, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Tuesday. In addition to Robinson, the Vikings will receive a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick, which could disappear based on playing time, while the Jaguars will get a 2026 fifth-round choice that could become a fourth-round pick based on playing time, Rapoport and Pelissero reported.
Minnesota is looking to stay afloat in a hotly contested NFC North, having started the season at 5-0 before losing its last two and falling to third in the division.
