TRUMP WILL HOLD RALLY AT DODGE COUNTY AIRPORT SUNDAY
Former President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally at the Dodge County Airport in Juneau Sunday afternoon. According to the Sheriff’s Office gates will open for entry beginning at 10 am with Trump expected to speak at 2 pm. Free tickets to the event are available on the Trump campaign website. For Trump it will be the third rally in Wisconsin in a week. He was in Waunakee and Milwaukee on Tuesday. Meanwhile Vice President Kamala Harris will be at Ripon College today. She is expected to speak after 3 pm. The event is invitation only.
COLUMBIA COUNTY STOLEN VEHICLE PURSUIT
A Columbia County Sheriff’s detective Tuesday afternoon followed a stolen vehicle into Marquette County on Interstate 39. Marquette County deputies stopped the vehicle near Endeavour and the suspect, 37-year-old Justin Susnik of Arkdale, was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to the Columbia County Jail in Portage. Charges referred against him include vehicle theft, his 4th OWI offense, and misdemeanor bail jumping. He was also wanted on warrants from Portage and Adams counties. The vehicle was stolen from a resident in the Town of Fort Winnebago. It was returned to them. Portage Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted during the incident. (Columbia County Jail photo).
LOOKING AT TAXI DEBT
One of the things the Ripon Common Council will be taking a closer look at is the shared ride taxi service. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says over the past few years the deficit of operating the service for the city has grown from $165,000 to about $322,000 last year. He says state and federal funding for taxi services has shrunk over the years from 70 percent to 54.7 percent. He says with a shared ride program the city is supposed to be contributing a match for state and federal funds but has not been diligent about it. He says they need to take a look at the operation of the service, rates, and the hours of operation. Sonntag says you may not need as many taxis on the road at certain hours, which could help reduce costs.
OSHKOSH CITY MANAGER SEARCH
The Oshkosh Common Council recently approved the posting in their search to hire the city’s next city manager. After 41 years of service to local government, Oshkosh City Manager Mark Rohloff is retiring effective January 3rd. Rohloff has served as Oshkosh City Manager for the past 16 years. City Councilman Jacob Floam says they hired a search firm for $25,000 to aid in the process. He points out they should start receiving applications within the next few weeks. He feels they need someone who will listen to residents needs but also has a firm grasp on the city budget and the need for growth. Floam says the city is hoping to hire Rohloff’s successor by November.
CARDS BY CHRISTMAS BENEFIT IN FDL SATURDAY
The Cards by Christmas program in Fond du Lac, with a team of nearly 150 crafters, will present the Wounded Warrior Project Card Making Benefit on Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. It will be held at the Cards by Christine Studio at 575 East 11th Street in Fond du Lac. Six holiday inspired cards can be made for a minimum $40 donation. Christine Bertram is the owner of Cards by Christine. She says folks who come in Saturday have choices when it comes to making the cards. They can make their own, have someone help them, or choose cards that have already been assembled. In addition, 38 veteran-themed baskets will be raffled off; there is a bake sale, and featured presenters. The goal is to raise $30,000 and Bertram says with a contribution of $10,000 from The Stampin’ Up! Organization they are at about $24,000 already. HUSTISFORD SENIOR DINING SITE REOPENS
The Dodge County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center is holding a grand re-opening for its Senior Nutrition Program Congregate Dining site at the Hustisford Fire Department. Lunch will be served on Monday, October 21st from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the fire station at 266 South Lake Street. During the lunch Foodwise Nutrition Educator Kimberly Lafler will be presenting on nutrition facts labels and learning how to read them. Being able to read the labels enables you to make healthier food choices. The eight Wisconsin-made products each won a head-to-head matchup in Manufacturing Madness, the bracket-style tournament that is part of the contest. RCH THERAPIST NAMED BEE WINNER
Jesse Schulz an SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital physical therapist has been named the newest recipient of the BEE or Be Exceptional Everyday Award. Schulz was recognized by a patient who shared her recent experience with him noting how well he explains things, includes her in the treatment plan, and makes her feel comfortable attending therapy. He also continues to promote Therapy Services and has been instrumental in starting the Men’s Pelvic Health program at Ripon Community Hospital. The BEE Award is specifically designed to recognize non-nursing staff members who demonstrate great teamwork and communication skills, collaboration, professionalism, exemplary service, and a commitment to excellence.
WAUPUN UTILITIES RECOGNIZED
Waupun Utilities office and customer service supervisor Jen Benson, and the utility itself were recognized last month during the WPPI Energy Annual Meeting in Wisconsin Dells. The utility is a member-owner of WPPI Energy, a joint action agency and wholesale energy provider. Benson achieved certification in joint action leadership. The program is a two-year commitment that broadens the graduate’s knowledge in five key topics within the electric utility industry. Waupun Utilities was also recognized for its milestone 130th anniversary. Founded in 1894 Waupun Utilities is a municipally owned and operated electric and water utility, serving more than 4,000 customers in Waupun, Wisconsin. The WPPI Energy Annual Meeting was held on September 19th.
