PENNY PEONY PAINTS THE WAY: a Library Renovation Fundraiser! |
SAT NOV 16 at 10 AM – NOON | Paint a trio of holiday ornaments | AGES 13 TO ADULT | REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Local artist Katie Lang is a lifelong library lover! Her wise mother made visiting the local library a mainstay of Katie’s childhood, and Katie is continuing the happy tradition with her children in Ripon. Seeing the potential for the library’s renovation plans to transform the entire library campus into a tourism-worthy destination, Katie is inspired to use her artistic skills to help bring the dream to fruition!
Owner and creator of Penny Peony Designs, Katie is offering a seasonally inspired guided painting class for $30 per project. Proceeds, beyond the cost of materials, support the library’s renovation fund. Through Katie’s kind and expert guidance, the finished projects will be treasured for years!
During this multimedia class, Katie guides participants in creating three unique holiday-themed ornaments; a Christmas tree, snowman, and poinsettia. Each ornament’s base is a wood block which is first covered with holiday-themed paper using decoupage glue. Next, Kaite superbly guides all skill levels through the step-by-step painting process of each design. This project uses acrylic paint, paint brushes, scissors, and decoupage glue and is geared for ages 13 to adult.
Please register and pay via the Penny Peony Designs website.
Although the library was recenlty awarded a 1.985 million dollar grant to offset renovation costs, to meet all the goals fundraising is still underway! Donations to the Ripon Library Renovation Fund can be made online via the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation website by searching for the “Ripon Public Library Renovation Fund.”

Miss Morgan’s Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles
Based on the true story of Jessie Carson—the American librarian who changed the literary landscape of France.
1918: As the Great War rages, Jessie Carson takes a leave of absence from the New York Public Library to work for the American Committee for Devastated France. Founded by millionaire Anne Morgan, this group of international women help rebuild destroyed French communities just miles from the front. Upon arrival, Jessie strives to establish something that the French have never seen—children’s libraries. She turns ambulances into bookmobiles and trains the first French female librarians. Then she disappears.
1987: When NYPL librarian and aspiring writer Wendy Peterson stumbles across a passing reference to Jessie Carson in the archives, she becomes consumed with learning her fate. In her obsessive research, she discovers that she and the elusive librarian have more in common than their work at New York’s famed library, but she has no idea their paths will converge in surprising ways across time. —Amazon

MON | DEC 2 | 6:00-7:30 PM | JOE HATCHER PRESENTATION | ADULTS
Psychedelics first hit American culture in the 1950s and 1960s. Although they were often used recreationally, Psychologists and other mental health professionals lauded their effectiveness in therapy. In the last fifteen years, however, there has been a resurgence of research into the use of psychedelics for the treatment of depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. One notable exception is Ketamine. This talk will give an overview of the history of the current status of the use of psychedelics in therapy and will address both relevant data and important controversies.
