OSHKOSH TEEN WITH AIRSOFT GUN CAUSES DISTURBANCE

An Oshkosh teen is facing charges for pointing a realistic looking airsoft gun at other juveniles Tuesday afternoon. At 12:35 pm officers responded to the Skate Park at 1570 Taft Avenue after what looked like a handgun was displayed. The group of juveniles involved ran to the 1000 block of North Lark Street. While at that location a 16-year-old Oshkosh boy took out the facsimile handgun, pointed it at several people, and threated to kill them. He fled on foot when an officer attempted contact, but was taken into custody after a short pursuit. He is facing charges of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, and seven counts of recklessly endangering safety. During the incident, Oshkosh West High School was placed in a secure status for approximately 15 minutes. No one was injured during the disturbance. Police encourage parents to be aware of the risks associated with their children having facsimile weapons.

JESSE VANG PRELIMINARY HEARING STATUS

Jesse Vang the man who was taking care of Elijah Vue when he reported the toddler missing in February has new public defenders. Vang was back in Manitowoc County court Tuesday with his new legal representation and a motion was filed to adjourn the preliminary hearing scheduled for tomorrow. The motion will be considered during a status conference Thursday. Vang is the boyfriend of Elijah’s mother Katrina Baur. He and Baur face charges stemming from the 3-year-old boy’s death. Baur waived her preliminary hearing Monday. She will be arraigned on October 30th. Prosecutors suspect the toddler was threatened with extreme punishment before his death. The medical examiner’s office says Elijah’s cause of death is “homicide by unspecified means.”

A HIGHWAY SPILL THAT IS TOUGH TO BEET

Wisconsin highways endure summer’s heat and winter’s cold, and all manner of spills but one in Ozaukee County Tuesday is tough to beat. Shortly before 6:30 yesterday morning deputies from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the intersection of County Highways H and I in the Town of Fredonia for a report of large quantity of beet juice by-product spilled on the roadway. A semi-tractor and dump trailer was transporting the juice from Lakeside Foods in Belgium to a farm in the Town of Saukville. While negotiating a turn at the intersection the beet juice spilled from the dump trailer. The trailer was not covered. The intersection was closed down about an hour and a half while the mess was cleaned up. Fifty-three-year-old Jason Vorpahl of Random Lake was driving the semi. (Ozaukee County Sheriff’s photo).

WEBSTER’S MARKETPLACE ENTERS SELL DOWN FOR TRANSITION

Webster’s Marketplace President Candie Webster says they weren’t soliciting any offers for the store in Ripon, and in fact she turned down Hy-Vee’s several times. She eventually relented selling to the employee-owned grocery chain based in Iowa. Candie says she would see Hy-Vee team members at national conferences and industry events and was always impressed with the way they praised their company. She believes if there was to be a transition this was the most natural one. She says the Webster Foundation will continue to provide community grants and matching funds for youth groups. She encourages those who have an interest in that to look up the Webster Foundation on the Oshkosh Area Foundation website. One of Webster’s biggest contributions was the $1.3 million it gave toward the building of the new Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area facility in Ripon. Candie says they see a lot of good coming out of that. Webster’s Marketplace will continue to operate through November 2nd and are in sell down mode with 10 percent off everything excluding alcohol, tobacco, lottery, and services.

ROCKY HORROR SHOW

The Fond du Lac County Campus’s Prairie Theater will play host to performances of “The Rocky Horror Show” through this Saturday. Performances by the Ghostlight Theatre Company are at 7 pm tonight through Friday night with a special 11:59 pm performance Saturday night. Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman says it is one of the first productions at the Prairie Theater since they parted ways with the UW-Oshkosh. He took his grandmother to a performance a while back and they both found it hysterical. Kaufman says the theater recently was the site of a St. Mary’s Springs Choir Concert and they are making arrangements with the school for more of their performances and activities. He says they are seeing increased interest in more events being hosted at the campus. Tickets to the Rocky Horror Show are $25 and are available online.
