10/20/24 Oshkosh Singers to Perform

OSHKOSH – The Oshkosh Chamber Singers will present their fall concert Sunday, Nov. 3. “Sacred Harmonies: From Longing to Eternal Rest” will begin at 4 p.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish (St. Peter site),  435 High Ave., Oshkosh.

Selections will include Mendelssohn’s “Psalm 42” and Fauré’s “Requiem” and “Cantique de Jean Racine.” Together, these masterpieces reflect on the profound themes of life, death and the enduring hope for unity and peace. All of the pieces will be accompanied by a full orchestra and organ.

Herb Berendsen is the music director.

The baritone soloist will be Sean Lynch.  He received a degree in vocal performance from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a Master of Arts in voice from the University of Iowa. He has appeared with the Fresco Opera Theatre, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, The Genesius Guild, the 2022 TEDDxOshkosh and the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra. He also has been a young artist for the Oberlin in Italy

Summer Program.

Lynch’s performance credits include Rambaldo in “La rondine,” Dr. Falke in “Die

Fledermaus,” The Vicar in “Albert Herring,” Grégorio in “Roméo et Juliette,” and Amelia’s Husband

in “Amelia goes to the Ball.”

Dr. Cayla Rosché (pictured) will be the soprano soloist. She recently completed her tenure as a Fulbright Scholar in Reykjavík, teaching phonetics and continuing her research on Icelandic art song at Listaháskoli/Iceland University of the Arts, culminating in a full recital of this repertory.

She is a former American-Scandinavian Foundation recipient and has presented her research at the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies conference, the Sam Houston Art Song Festival, and the Arctic Circle Conference.

Rosché holds a DMA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in voice performance and vocal pedagogy. She is a visiting assistant professor of music teaching voice at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton.  

Other regular season concerts for the Chamber Singers this season include “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols,” in song and Scripture for the holiday season at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Algoma at Division, Oshkosh; and “Hope for Unity,” emphasizing the aspiration for harmony among people, bridging differences, and fostering a sense of hope and solidarity through music. Concert time is 4 p.m. ​Saturday, March 29, 2025, at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh.
