10/11/24 Hometown Broadcasting Sports Friday

11 October 2024 Sports

The Packers continue to get ready for the visiting Arizona Cardinals Sunday.

Both teams won last Sunday as the Packers (3-3) held on to beat the Rams on the road, 24-19 while the Cardinals (2-3) nipped the 49ers in San Francisco, 24-23.

One thing to watch is the Cardinals running game vs. Packers run defense. The Cardinals rushed for 169 yards in their upset of the 49ers, with James Conner gaining 86 yards on 19 carries and Kyler Murray running for 83 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts. Run defense has been one of the Packers’ biggest weaknesses for most of the past few years, though they’ve shown progress in that area so far this season. The Packers allowed 134 yards on 28 carries against the Rams, with Kyren Williams rushing for 102 yards on 22 attempts.

In the passing game, Cardinals WR Michael Wilson caught five passes for a team-high 78 yards in last weekend’s win over the 49ers.

The Packers will have WR Romeo Doubs back after a one-game suspension and hope to have Christian Watson back, but he has been limited in practice this week, as was CB Jaiire Alexander, who’s missed two games with a groin injury. He also saw limited practice this week. Also tight end Luke Musgrave did not practice Thursday and is not expected to play Sunday.

Cardinals OL Will Hernandez (knee) was put on injured reserve this week and is out for the season, while Cardinals rookie DL Darius Robinson (calf) was activated from IR this week and the No. 27 overall pick could make his NFL debut. Cardinals’ starting right tackle Kelvin Beachum has been battling a sore hamstring for multiple weeks and didn’t practice on Wednesday.

Coverage begins at 10:00 with the kickoff at noon from Lambeau Field and can be heard on FM 1023, The Bug.

In Thursday Night Football the San Francisco 49ers evened their record at 3-3 with a road win at Seattle, 36-24, over the Seahawks (3-3).

The 49ers Brock Purdy completed 18 of 28 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns, two of those to tight end George Kittle. Deebo Samuel snared 3 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Isaac Guerendo rushed for 99 yards on 10 carries.

The Seahawks Gino Smith was 30 of 52 for 312 yards, one touchdown to Tyler Lockett, and one interception.

In the American League Divisional Playoffs, the Yankees advanced to the Championship Series with a 3-1 win over the Royals, to win their series 3-1. In the other American League divisional game, the Indians shaded the Tigers 5-4, to even their series at 2 games each. They play game five tonight in Cleveland.

In the National League divisional series the Padres are at the Dodgers with their series knotted at 2 games each.

In NBA exhibition action, the Lakers won at Milwaukee over the Bucs 107-102. Giannis Antetokounmpo played his first game at Fiserv Forum since April and scored 20 points in one half of action.

In college football Saturday the Badgers (3-2) are at Rutgers (4-1). The pregame starts at 9:00 with the kickoff at 11:00 and can be heard on AM 1600/93.1 FM, WRPN, The Wave.
