Michael Siani hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the 12th inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4 on Tuesday night.

Siani came to the plate after a wild pitch by Elvis Peguero (7-4) put runners on second and third. He lined an opposite-field single into left field to give the Cardinals a 6-4 lead.

Siani then stole second and advanced to third on catcher William Contreras’ throwing error, setting up a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson.

Ryan Helsley (7-4) pitched two innings for the win, striking out four. The All-Star closer was going for his 43rd save before Willy Adames hit a two-out RBI double in the 11th for Milwaukee.

Siani nearly made an outstanding diving catch on Adames’ liner to center, but the ball squirted out of his glove as his right arm got twisted in the outfield grass. The Cardinals challenged the call and the ruling was upheld.

Paul Goldschmidt homered for St. Louis, which won for the third time in four games to move back over .500 at 70-69. Goldschmidt, who finished with three hits and three RBIs, has a 10-game hitting streak.

Jackson Chourio and Joey Ortiz connected for NL Central-leading Milwaukee. Aaron Civale struck out seven while pitching five innings of three-run ball.

Adames went 1 for 5 with three strikeouts, ending his streak of five straight games with a home run.

Arenado hit a sacrifice fly and Goldschmidt doubled home Brendan Donovan, giving St. Louis a 2-0 lead in the first.

But Ortiz hit a leadoff drive in the third for his 10th homer. After Brice Turang grounded out, Chourio tied it at 2 with his 19th on the season.

Steven Matz pitched 4 2/3 innings for the Cardinals in his first big league game since April 30. He was charged with three runs and three hits. The left-hander had been sidelined by a lower back strain.

St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol and third base coach Daniel Descalso were ejected in the fourth by home plate umpire Lance Barrett. Pedro Pagés was batting for the Cardinals when they were thrown out.

All-Star William Contreras went 0 for 4. He is hitless with five walks in his last 14 at-bats.

The teams meet again tonight as the Cardinals send RHP Sonny Gray (12-9, 3.96 ERA) against  Brewers RHP Colin Rea (12-4, 3.70 ERA). First pitch is at 6:40 from American Family Field.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Pirates shutout the Cubs 5-0. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 10 games, the Cardinals by 11, the Reds by 15 and the Pirates by 15 ½.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won on the road Tuesday night beating the Cedar Rapids Kernals 2-1. They meet again tonight with the first pitch set for 6:35.

With Marshawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson on the first injury report of the season, newly acquired RB Josh Jacobs is gearing up for a heavy workload in Friday’s season opener in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Lloyd is suffering a from a hamstring injury and did not practice on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Wilson is listed as a limited participant at Wednesday’s practice due to a hip injury.

On the practice squad, the Packers have Ellis Merriweather and La’Mical Perine, as well as Chris Brooks, who they added on Wednesday. There is a chance one or more of those players could be elevated for Friday’s game.

For now, it appears Jacobs is in line for the bulk load of the work against the Philadelphia Eagles.

You can hear all of the action beginning with the pregame at 5:00 and the kickoff at 7:15 on FM 1023, The Bug.

The Wisconsin Herd announced its 2024-25 season — even as it deals with a rocky relationship with the financially troubled Oshkosh Arena.

The Herd has 24 home games, 15 of them on the weekend.

The season starts on the road in Des Moines on Friday, Nov. 8, playing the Iowa Wolves. The next week, the Herd is home for back-to-back games against the Grand Rapids Gold on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16.

Home games Monday through Thursday will tip off at 6 p.m., and games Friday through Sunday tip off at 7 p.m. There are some exceptions in January.

This year, the season starts with a 16-game Tip-Off Tournament before a 34-game regular season. Only the outcome of regular season games will determine if a team advances to the NBA G League Playoffs next April.

Every team will play in a NBA G League Winter Showcase, but only teams with the best winning percentages in the Tip-Off Tournament get to compete in the Winter Showcase Championship.

Season tickets are available by calling (920) 233-HERD (4373) or fill out a form on the Wisconsin Herd website to have the team reach out to you.

Single-game tickets will be available in October. Promotions for the home games will be announced later.
