Willy Adames tied the major league record with his 13th three-run homer of the season,  going deep on his 29th birthday to lift the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers over the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 Monday for their sixth win in seven games.

Adames homered for the fifth consecutive game, matching the Brewers record shared by Jeromy Burnitz (1997) and Eric Thames (2017).

Adames’ 13 three-run homers equaled Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996. Adames is hitting .255 with a career-high 99 RBIs, one more than in 2022.

Rookie Jackson Chourio hit a grand slam and Rhys Hoskins also homered for the Brewers (81-57), who began Labor Day with a nine-game division lead.

Adames put the Brewers ahead 3-0 in the first with his 29th home run of the season, a drive off Andre Pallante (6-7).

St. Louis, which entered five games back for the final NL wild card, dropped back to .500 at 69-69.

Freddy Peralta (10-7) won his third consecutive decision, allowing three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had pitched 11 scoreless innings over his previous two starts.

Bryan Hudson and Joe Ross followed with hitless relief.

Pallante (6-7) gave up five runs, five hits and a season-high five walks in five innings.

Pedro Pagés hit a pair of solo home runs off Peralta, increasing his season home run total to five.

Hoskins hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Chourio hit his second slam of the season in the sixth off Riley O’Brien. The 20-year-old Chourio, who has 18 homers, walked a season-high three times.

Adames said Chourio called the grand slam in dugout earlier in the inning.

Milwaukee hit a two-run homer, three-run homer and grand slam in the same game for the first time since July 1, 2022.

Cardinals LHP Steven Matz (1-2, 6.18 ERA), who last appeared April 30, will take the mound Tuesday after completing his rehab from a back injury. Brewers RHP Aaron Civale (5-8, 4.59) has gone 3-2 cwith a 3.72 ERA in nine starts since being acquired from Tampa Bay on July 3. First pitch is at 6:40.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Monday the Reds beat the Astros 5-3 and the Pirates over the Cubs 5-3. The Brewers lead the Cubs by 10 games, the Cardinals by 12, the Reds by 15 ½ and the Pirates by 16 ½ games.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers play tonight at Cedar Rapids against the Kernals. First pitch is at 6:35.

The Packers practiced Sunday and Monday and will take the field again today for their final practice before heading to Sao Paola, Brazil for Friday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Packers signed FB Andrew Beck, CB Kamal Hadden and RB La’Mical Perine (la-MICHAEL PEE-rhyne) to the practice squad and placed RB Nate McCrary on practice squad/injured reserve. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions on Friday.

Beck (6-3, 252), a sixth-year player out of the University of Texas, was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2019. He was claimed off waivers by the Denver Broncos on Sept. 1, 2019, and went on to play in 51 games with 10 starts from 2019-22. He also has returned two kickoffs for 94 yards (47.0 avg.), including one for an 85-yard TD, becoming the first fullback to record a kick-return TD since Jacksonville Jaguars FB Derrick Wimbush in 2005. He will wear No. 47 for the Packers. Hadden (6-1, 192), a rookie out of the University of Tennessee, was originally selected in the sixth round (No. 211 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and was released by the Chiefs after training camp. He played three seasons for Tennessee (2021-23) and one season for Independence Community College (2020). The San Francisco 49ers placed receiver Ricky Pearsall on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday, two days after he was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco.

The NFI designation means Pearsall must miss at least the first four games of his rookie season as he recovers. San Francisco signed offensive tackle Brandon Parker to a one-year deal to fill the open spot on the 53-man roster.

Pearsall was shot near San Francisco’s Union Square on Saturday afternoon after a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, attempted to rob him, resulting in a struggle between the two, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Both Pearsall and the suspect were shot during the struggle.

After Pearsall was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, police announced that he was in stable condition. He was upgraded to fair condition Sunday morning and released from the hospital soon after, less than 24 hours following the shooting.

Pearsall’s mother posted on social media Sunday morning that her son had been shot in the chest with the bullet exiting his back and missing vital organs. Before the shooting, Pearsall had participated in an autograph signing at an event center before going to Union Square, ABC7 in San Francisco reported.

Treshaun Ward totaled 138 yards of offense, including a 13-yard touchdown reception, against his former team as Boston College stunned No. 10 Florida State 28-13 on Monday night.
