9/29/24 Space Day at EAA Aviation Museum Coming Up

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — Families around the Fox Cities can embrace their inner astronaut on Saturday, October 12, as the EAA Aviation Museum’s annual Space Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Space Day marks EAA’s participation in World Space Week, with activities for families and kids of all ages included with regular museum admission that day. This year’s theme is careers in aerospace.

Activities will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this year’s lineup of activities includes:

·         Cup Rockets: Create a mini rocket to launch using cups and rubber bands.

·         Mission Patch Contest: Design a mission patch for this year’s Space Day theme of careers in aerospace. The winning design will be turned into a sticker and passed out at next year’s Space Day.

·         Lunar Landing: Design a lunar module to touchdown on the targeted landing site.

·         Reentry Capsule Design: Design a reentry capsule to hover in a wind tunnel.

·         Stomp Rockets: Design a rocket and launch it into space with one giant stomp.

·         Mars Rover: Design a hovering rover to explore the surface of Mars. Warning: This activity uses latex balloons.

Beginning at 4 p.m. in the museum’s Eagle Hangar, NASA Flight Director Ronak Dave will speak about his career journey and some of his experiences working on historic space missions. Dave’s past experiences include work in the International Space Station Motion Control Systems Group, supporting the Boeing Starliner Orbital Flight Test-1 mission as a propulsion officer, and most recently, serving as the ascent propulsion officer for the Boeing Starliner Orbit Flight Test-2 mission. Dave was selected as NASA Flight Director in April 2022.
