WAUPUN WOMAN HURT IN DODGE COUNTY CRASH

A 31-year-old Waupun woman was hurt Sunday afternoon when she drove into an intersection on US Highway 151 and hit another vehicle in Dodge County’s Town of Trenton. Sheriff’s officials say Jenny Wolc was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue east on County Road C and entered the southbound lanes of US Highway 151. She struck a 2022 Kia Stinger driven by a 53-year-old Middleton man. Wolc suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam and later flown to UW Hospital in Madison. She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating while under the influence of an intoxicant. The other driver wasn’t injured. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the intersection will be improved during construction next May to increase safety.

CONGRESSMAN GROTHMAN STATEMENT ON SECOND TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Congressman Glenn Grothman says it is alarming, but not surprising that after 40 years of calm, former President Donald Trump has been the subject of an assassination attempt for the second time in two months. In a statement the federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says, “Crazed rhetoric by leading Democratic politicians, including Kamala Harris herself, have said President Trump will try to get rid of democracy.” Grothman says he’s encountered people who believe that nonsense. He also noted mainstream media outlets report it.

CREDIT REPAIR SCAMS

The Administrator for the State’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says there are no miracle workers out there that can fix negative statements on your credit record or improve your credit score. Michelle Reinen says scammers will claim they can on websites and social media. She says the methods they use to do that could include using stolen Social Security numbers or convincing you to apply for Employer Identification Numbers from the IRS under false pretenses-which could result in fines or even prison time. They may just present you with letter templates you can send to credit reporting agencies asking to remove the information, which you could get from the Federal Trade Commission for free. She says if the information in your credit report is accurate it can’t be removed no matter how negative it is. She says red flags to watch out for include asking you to pay up front, warning you not to contact the credit bureaus directly, advising you to dispute credit report information that you know is accurate, and asking you to lie on your credit or loan applications, or file a false identity report.

BROKEN BREAD PROGRAM

One of the longest running food pantry programs in Fond du Lac is the Broken Bread program at the Cathedral of St. Paul’s at 51 West Division Street. Annie Culver is the director of the Broken Bread program. She says they are low-barrier meaning they don’t ask for identification to participate. She notes they just ask about how many people there are in the household. They provide selections of fresh vegetables, proteins, some dairy items, and bread items. So you walk away with a box full of food. Culver says community partner donations make the Broken Bread program possible.  Every week they do purchase vegetables and some cooking items to give their guests some options. Those purchases come out of their budget from the donations they receive. The Broken Bread program runs every Friday from 1 to 5 pm at the Cathedral of St. Paul’s.
