At least Eight Random Lake School District students and their bus driver were hurt when their school bus was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee southwest of Random Lake Monday morning. Ozaukee County Sheriff’s officials say the accident happened shortly before 7:30 am when the Jeep went through a stop sign at Jay Road and County Highway E striking the bus in the center of the driver’s side. The bus spun 180 degrees and overturned on its passenger side in a ditch. There were 36 students on the bus. Students on the bus ranged from Elementary School to High School students. Eight students and the bus driver, 53-year-old Mark Hall of West Bend, were taken to hospitals and Children’s Hospital. Injuries ranged from minor to severe, but none were life threatening. Some students were later brought to hospitals by their parents. Thirty-two-year-old Becka Stevenson of West Bend was driving the Jeep. Her passenger was 33-year-old Luis Vargas of Random Lake. They suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Stevenson was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. (Ozaukee County Sheriff’s photo).
