He says people on the Council have been doing some good work, but he has been frustrated by his time on County Board. He also said the administrator, who resides outside of the county, is detached from the daily life of Green Lake. Dretske’s resignation takes effect September 13th and needs the approval of both the Council and County Board. He says he will continue to attend meetings through the 13th and there are a few things he has to do as a council member before then. He served on the Council for 3 years and the County Board for two years.
PERTUSSIS STILL A CONCERN
The Fond du Lac County Health Department is reminding parents and guardians of the importance of meeting school immunization requirements as pertussis cases continue to circulate. Wisconsin law requires all students enrolled in public or private schools to meet specific immunization guidelines or have a waiver signed. Since mid-June the health department has continued to identify weekly pertussis cases within the community. Families are asked to stay up to date on vaccines and stay informed about pertussis or the whooping cough. Pertussis symptoms include severe coughing fits, “whooping” sounds occur when breathing in, sneezing, runny nose and other cold-like symptoms. If your child has those symptoms seek medical attention by calling your provider. The health department also recommends regular handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes. To prevent further spread of respiratory illnesses, stay home when ill.

LACONIA GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM MOVES UP A DIVISION
The Laconia High School Girls Basketball Team will be competing in WIAA Division 3 this year. District Superintendent Wayne Weber says schools with successful teams can be moved up a division based on a point system if they have a record of success, and their Girls Basketball team has won conference titles and back-to-back Division 4 State Championships. Weber says because of their enrollment they would have moved up a division anyway. He says their Girls Basketball coach has kept the team competitive the last few years scheduling games with top Division 3 and some Division 2 teams thereby also prepping them for a postseason run.
