Waupun Police, Dodge and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies were able to peacefully resolve a standoff incident with a man threatening self-harm Tuesday evening. When officers arrived they learned the man had a sword and several knives and had barricaded himself in a bedroom. Waupun Police officers were able to safely remove other occupants of the residence. While negotiating with him he told them he had ingested an excessive amount of prescription medications and he began throwing knives from the residence toward officers. Police asked for and got assistance from the Dodge and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s departments. Over the next few hours negotiators established a rapport with the man and he eventually exited the bedroom and was safely taken into custody by Waupun officers. He was assessed by first responders and taken to a local hospital for evaluation and medical treatment. Medical staff and police worked together to make sure he will be getting the mental health assistance he needs.
