NEW JERSEY WOMAN HURT IN GOLF CART ACCIDENT
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials say a 24-year-old New Jersey woman was injured when she fell off a golf cart at N3630 State Highway 67 in the Town of Osceola just before 10:30 last night. The County Communications Center received a 911 call about the accident with the caller reporting the woman wasn’t breathing. The Communications Center gave the caller CPR instructions. Deputies and Campbellsport Ambulance arrived and got the woman to a nearby landing zone. She was flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with serious injuries. Investigators say a 24-year-old Ohio man was driving the golf cart and the woman was sitting in a rear facing seat. A witness says the woman tried to reach another person running alongside the golf cart and fell off landing on the asphalt driveway. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Campbellsport Ambulance and Fire Department, City of Fond du Lac Ambulance, and ThedaStar Helicopter.
OSHKOSH DRUG INVESTIGATION
Four Oshkosh residents were arrested yesterday on felony drug charges the result of the execution of several search warrants. One man arrested had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and another man was taken into custody for violation of his probation. Oshkosh Police assisted the Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit in executing the search warrants for residences in the 900 Block of Wright Street, the 500 Block of Scott Avenue, and the 300 Block of Dove Street. The search warrants were served by the Oshkosh Police Department’s SWAT Team, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and the State of Wisconsin Joint Tactical Team.
FORMER WRC INMATE BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL ON HOMICIDE CHARGE
A state inmate charged with first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly killing another inmate at the Wisconsin Resource Center has been bound over for trial. Testimony was given in Winnebago County court Monday during a preliminary hearing for 41-year-old Jumal Lipscomb and probable cause was found for him to stand trial. According to the criminal complaint Oshkosh Police responded to the facility on May 21st for a report that an inmate had attacked another inmate in a courtyard. Lipscomb and another inmate were sitting at a picnic table when Lipscomb suddenly attacked the other inmate, punching and kicking him. The victim tried to get away but fell. Lipscomb continued to kick and stomp the victim’s head. Center staff members ended the attack a little over two minutes after it began. The victim died at a hospital on June 10th. Though Lipscomb and the victim seemed to have a friendly relationship previously, a Center employee had overheard Lipscomb say the victim was plotting against him. Lipscomb is now incarcerated at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage.
GREEN LAKE COUNTY 911 ISSUES
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported a technical problem with their 911 service yesterday. 911 landlines were being routed to a national 911 center. They ask residents who need emergency or non-emergency assistance to call 920-299-2014. If you are unable to connect using that number, dial 608-297-2115. That will connect you to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, who will relay your information to the Green Lake County dispatch center.
FATAL AND CRITICAL ACCIDENTS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY
Washington County Sheriff’s officials say a 73-year-old West Bend resident was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Highway A and Trading Post Trail in the Town of Farmington. The victim was heading south on Trading Post Trail. A 22-year Fredonia area resident was heading west on County Highway A. The victim died at the scene of the crash, the driver from Fredonia was taken to Aurora Grafton by Newburg Rescue with minor injuries.
Later in the afternoon deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highland Drive and Badger Road in the Town of Kewaskum. A 76-year-old Town of Barton resident was heading east on Badger Road. A 40-year-old Town of Kewaskum resident was southbound on a motorcycle on Highland Drive. There was a collision at the intersection. The motorcycle operator was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wautoma in critical condition. The driver was treated for minor injuries and released.
PARTISAN PRIMARY ELECTION
Wisconsin voters head to the polls today for the Partisan Primary Election. That means you can only vote one party. Among the offices to vote on today are U.S. Senate and Congress and there are two referendum questions to amend the Wisconsin Constitution that have to do with the allocation of federal funding by the Governor and State Legislature. In the U.S. Senate races incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin is unopposed. There are three Republicans vying for the right to unseat her. Those three are Eric Hovde, Charles Barman, and Rejani Raveendran. In Fond du Lac County voters also will be voting for District Attorney, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and Treasurer. All four incumbents for those positions are unopposed. Candidates with the most votes will advance to the Tuesday, November 5th General Election which will also include voting for President and Vice President.
APPLICATIONS SOUGHT FOR AGRICULTURAL ROADS IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Governor Tony Evers and the State’s Department of Transportation Monday announced application materials for the second project solicitation cycle of the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program are now available. Approximately $100 million in state funding will be awarded for eligible infrastructure projects to support Wisconsin’s farmers, producers, and agricultural industries. The solicitation application materials will be hosted on AccessGov, an online application site. Additional application materials, along with a direct link to the AccessGov portal are available on the WisDot website. The application deadline is 5 pm on Monday, September 30th.
PREVENTING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Green Lake County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Vande Kolk says they are seeing more serious and fatal accidents caused by distracted driving and drug use. He says both types of accidents are preventable that’s why they constantly remind the public to put their cellphones down, keep their eyes on the road avoid getting behind the wheel if they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He says the Sheriff’s Department does have drug recognition experts and their training allows them to tell when a driver has been using drugs. Vande Kolk says it may be embarrassing for someone to go through testing to determine if they are driving impaired but the goal is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.
LIFE INSURANCE INHERITANCE SCAM
The Administrator for the State’s Division of Trade and Consumer Protection says if you get a letter from a lawyer or law firm looking for a lost heir with a promise of millions of dollars in inheritance and life insurance monies, it’s probably a scam. Michelle Reinen says the offer is temping with a split of the estate going to you, charities, and a fee for the lawyers. She recommends making sure the lawyer or law firm is legit. She says ask questions like who is this long-lost family member and does it make sense with your family tree. She says if you contact them, they’ll try to get your personal and financial information, like your Social Security or bank account numbers, your money-or all of them. The life insurance policy or inheritance is a scam, don’t respond to it.
RIPON AREA THEATRE PERFORMING THE WIZARD OF OZ
The Ripon Area Community Theatre will put on the musical “The Wizard of Oz” this weekend at the Ripon High School Auditorium. Based on the Frank L. Baum book and music composed for the movie it is story about Dorothy Gale’s trip over the Rainbow and her visit to Oz. Like the film version some of the actors have dual roles. Sheena Schroeder (SHRAY-dur) plays Auntie Em and Glinda the Good Witch. She says it was tough to play two different roles but a nice challenge. Julia Manor plays Mrs. Gulch and the Wicked Witch. She says they have over 40 actors in the musical, some as young as 8-years-old. Brian Reilly is the director. Performances are Friday night at 7 pm, Saturday at 2 and 7 pm, and Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 for General Admission, $5 for ages 6 to 18, and admission is free for those 5 and under. Tickets are available at the door or online at Hometown Tickets.com. ENVISION AGRI-BUSINESS COUNCIL GOLF OUTING
Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Agri-Business Council Golf Outing is coming up at the Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Fond du Lac on Thursday, August 22nd. However, the deadline to register for the event is tomorrow. Amy Ries is Envision’s Director of Agricultural Programs. She says it is a 9-hole scramble and depending on your sponsorship includes, golf, carts, lunch and drink tickets. There will be games and other challenges included. Proceeds support the Ag in the Classroom program. All you need to know can be found on the Envision website, click on Events and that takes you to the Event Calendar where the outing is listed on August 22nd with all the details. Registration is at 11 am that morning, with Lunch at 11:30, and a shot-gun start for golf at 12:30 pm.
RCH AUXILIARY MUM SALE
The SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital Auxiliary has scheduled its seventh annual fall mum sale from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday, September 9th and Tuesday, September 10th at the hospital’s main entrance. The sale will feature a choice of high quality and multicolored nine and 10 inch fall blooming plants with some new choices added. These include mums in various colors and sizes, lavender, Black-eyed Susans, coneflowers, and purple fountain grass. Prices range from $15 to $25. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.
