FDL MAN SENTENCED FOR THREATENING TALK SHOW HOST AND LEGISLATOR

A 75-year-old Fond du Lac man was sentenced in Fond du Lac County court Monday to 7 days in jail, a $500 fine and court costs for one count of terrorist threats which is a felony. The conviction stemmed from two emails James Stearns sent on May 25th and May 27th of 2022, to a radio talk show host and a member of the Wisconsin Legislature in the days after the Uvalde School shooting. In the email to the radio host which Stearns wanted shared, he threatened to buy a gun the most powerful he could purchase to murder any legislator that voted in favor of a bill that would allow teachers or administrators to be armed with a firearm.  The email to the legislator threatened that “you’ll be a dead man in 60 days” and ‘people will hunt you down and your family like animals” if the law passed.  Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says, “Political violence has no place in society and threats to murder legislators for doing the work of the people is a threat to democracy and must never be tolerated.”
