From Wayne Mausser:

On Day 2 of training camp, the Packers remained outside on Ray Nitschke Field in the midst of strong rain, while QB Jordan Love continued his hold-in as he awaits a new contract.

As they wait for Love’s return, the Packers bolstered their quarterback room by signing 2020 4th-round pick Jacob Eason. To make room on the roster, the team waived former Wisconsin long snapper Peter Bowden.

The rain made for memorable work outside.

The conditions made it particularly difficult for kickers Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, and James Turner, who are battling for the starting spot. Carlson started in all 17 games last year, but after missing 6 field goals in the regular season, the organization brought in competition over the offseason.

For the second straight day, the battle in the trenches was won by the defense as they adapt to the new 4-3 scheme under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

The front seven applied constant pressure, including a stretch where across 4 plays, Gary racked up 3 sacks.

The Green Bay Packers have signed QB Jacob Eason and released LS Peter Bowden. The transactions were announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Eason (6-6, 226), a third-year player out of the University of Washington, was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round (No. 122 overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has played in two career games, one for the Colts in 2021 and one for the Carolina Panthers in 2022. Eason has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. He participated as a tryout player in the Packers’ rookie minicamp back in May. Eason will wear No. 7 for the Packers.

It was a pitcher’s duel at Wrigley Field Tuesday night as the Brewers edged the Cubs 1-0. Jake Bauers drove in the only run in the 8th inning as each team managed 7 hits.  Jackson Chourio went 2 for 4 the Crew.

Milwaukee starter Colin Rea pitched five innings, scattering four hits while striking out eight and walking two. Four relievers followed and Trevor Megill pitched the ninth to pick up his 20th save.  Elivs Peguero (6-3) got the win.

Cubs starter Jackson Taillon )7-5) took the loss. Hegave up the only run of the game in the 8th while scattering four hits, striking out three and walking three.

The team’s close out their three-game series this afternoon with the first pitch set for 1:20.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday the Cardinals nipped the Pirates 2-1.  Rookie Pittsburgh pitcher Paul Skenes (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Cincinnati at Atlanta was postponed.  The Brewers lead the Cardinals by five games, the the Pirates by seven, and the Cuts and Reds by 10.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers lost at Beloit Tuesday night 3-2. The T-Rates drop to 58 and 32 while the Sky Carp improved to 44 and 44.  They play again tonight with the first pitch at 6:35.

There were no games in the North Woods League.
